I'm Eric S. Fomley, and I'm a writer, magazine editor, and anthologist. Here is a snapshot of my story and what I'm asking for:

I'm enthusiastic about Science Fiction and Fantasy (and a little horror) with a tendency to read and write darker speculative fiction. This isn't to say that this is all I read and write, but it's where my preferences usually lay. I decided to take my writing seriously a little over a year ago. I wanted to do more with the ideas bouncing around in my head and the scribbled stories in my notebook during some of my more boring classes at college. Since that time, I've churned out a lot of fiction, and writing is where my passion is.

Earlier this year, I put it in my mind that I was going to sell my fiction at the professional level (i.e. in magazines and anthologies paying at least .06 per word as defined by the SFWA). Since that time, I have produced more than fifty works of fiction, making its rounds through the various markets with several currently held for further consideration. I'm determined to reach this goal.

But I wanted to do more than write. I majored in English writing in college.

So, I started Shacklebound Books and Martian Magazine. Within the scope of speculative fiction, I tend to favor short stories, and especially flash fiction (stories of 1,500 words or less). I wanted to create outlets that help to further celebrate this form.

With Shacklebound Books, I publish anthologies of short fiction and flash. The first was Drabbledark: An Anthology of Dark Drabbles, featuring stories told in exactly 100 words from 86 authors. The anthology had a very promising launch and other drabble-length projects stemmed from the anthology including Martian Magazine, a pro-paying magazine of drabble length fiction.

I found that there's a niche for flash fiction and not a lot of publishers touch that length. I began other anthology projects such as Timeshift: Tales of Time which features some of the most talented writers in the business coming together in an anthology of flash-length time and time travel stories. This project led to Sins and Other Worlds, an anthology of dark science fiction short stories and flash that again features some of the biggest names writing in the genre. I have published many projects, have several I'm working on, and many planned for the future.

So how does Patreon help me with my goals?

Through Patreon, I want to offer a way for patrons to receive copies of my work as an author and editor at a discounted price per month while supporting my efforts. I have a full-time job, three children, and I'm planning a wedding for next year. I often have very little time to write or edit, but it's where my passion is. I want to have my fiction in the hands of readers. I want to put the fiction of veteran and talented new authors in the hands of readers. And, my greatest dream, would be to work on writing and editing full-time. It's my eventual hope to be a full-time writer and editor, but if I could even be supported enough to drop some hours at work, it would give me so much more time to create.

So, if you have the means and like what it is I'm trying to do, please consider becoming my patron and helping my dream come true.
