Hi, there Artist Friend!

First and foremost, I want to send out a huge thank you to everyone that has watched my videos or read my blog posts. It means the world to me that you've taken time to check out the content I've shared and, even more, that you're here now. I’m incredibly excited to get to know you more and help you move forward in your artistic journey.

If this is your first time meeting me, hello!, I'm a traditional media Illustrator, Art Blogger and Teaching Artist with a passion for creating original art using a variety of traditional mediums, and also for sharing my skills and encouraging aspiring artists to pursue their passions. I 100% believe that it is through growing in those activities that light us up inside and peeling back those layers that make us ourselves that we're able to reach true fulfillment and, simultaneously, inspire others around us to also live their lives wholeheartedly.

I've had the pleasure of teaching art locally for over 6 years and have worked with students of all ages and levels. A little over a year ago I made the decision to finally leave years of working at my last "normal" full-time teaching position in order to finally pursue my dream of taking my work to the online world.

For a bit over a year, I've been creating helpful content for aspiring artists that I share through my blog (erikalancaster.com/art-blog) and YouTube channel (youtube.com/erika_lancaster_art). It's been absolutely amazing to meet people from all around to world who share my same passion for art.

I've picked Patreon as a platform for finally creating my membership site through which I'll be offering even more in-depth guidance for aspiring artists looking to stay consistent with their art, progress their skills and discover their unique voice.

What you can look forward to as a member:

-A bunch of awesome content updated every-single-month!
-There are four different tiers that you can decide to become a member of and each of them gets access to different benefits. Check out each tier's benefits to the right and pick the one that works for you. ----->
-Once you’re a member, you’ll have access to the entire back catalog for your tier... for as long as this Patreon site exists (I anticipate it to be a VERY long time!).
-Access to a special section of my website that will be updated on a monthly basis with new art reference photos taken by myself that you can use to create artwork of your own (even work you intend to sell).
-Direct feedback from me on any of your projects (I’ll be checking on posts in the Community section from Monday through Friday providing feedback but you can also message me directly through the platform).

Here’s some information that will help you navigate the Becoming Artists Patreon site:

*Important note: The site’s layout and interface changes depending on what device you’re visiting it with. I highly encourage you to use this site on a desktop or laptop because it is easier to navigate.

The site has three main sections/tabs:
  1. Overview- This is where I explain who I am and what my Patreon site is all about
  2. Posts- Here you’ll be able to find all of my posts (video tutorials, announcements, etc.) in chronological order. You can search for past posts filtering by tags and/or date. You’ll find the Filter section on the left-hand side that will list all the Tags I’ve created. Simply click on the tag and the page will show all the posts containing that tag.
  3. Community- This is a special area for members to post their work, comments, and where we’ll be able to talk to each other. I’ll be checking on this tab from Monday through Friday, providing feedback and engaging with you. For me, this is the most special section, as it’s the place where we’ll be all helping each other grow and forming connections! Let’s keep this area positive and provide each other constructive feedback.

What are “tags”?
As I mentioned before, in the Posts tab, you’ll be able to find all the content I’ve published available for your tier. You’ll always have access to all of the past videos and documents I’ve uploaded.
Tags are words that you can type into the Filter section on the left in order to find a past tutorial. Each video tutorial I upload will contain a specific tag depending on the subject, medium or technique like “watercolor”, “drawing”, “landscape”, “still life”, etcetera.
Simply type in what you’d like to find and all the past videos including that tag will pop up.

Here are some comments from some of the aspiring artists I've had the pleasure of working with throughout the past few months:

"I have followed Erika for a while on her blog, Pinterest, watched her videos, and receive her newsletter, enjoying her clear description of art concepts. Now I’ve been lucky enough to join her Facebook art group, watch her weekly live streams and had a personal Skype class. She is approachable, fun, and KIND! She quickly figured out where I was in my creative journey, encouraged me, and gave great feedback and tips to help me move forward."
-Barb Maki (Alberta, Canada)

"Erika is energetic, talented, and the love she has towards the art, as well as for art enthusiasts shows in all she does. I truly admire and respect her work, as well as her work ethic. I appreciate the time she has dedicated to inform and teach me different artistic skills. I would love to be able to take more classes with her and be able to work with her in the future."
-Jesus Cruz (Florida, USA)

"Last week I completed a Skype session with Erika. We had a brilliant class which I thoroughly enjoyed and learned so much from. Erika was well prepared for the lesson and shared her screen to clearly demonstrate the concepts. I learned so much that I will now work on and develop with further practice.
I am keen and excited to practice further and develop the concepts she has taught me. Erika is clear and enthusiastic in explaining the topics. I understood each point before we progressed to the next step. After completion of the lesson, Erika also sent me exercises and tips for me to practice. I would highly recommend Erika for art lessons!
