About Pam Laricchia
A short video message from Pam
Hi! I'm Pam Laricchia, host of the weekly Exploring Unschooling Podcast. I'm also the founder of the unschooling website livingjoyfully.ca, and author of five books about unschooling, most recently, The Unschooling Journey: A Field Guide.
In March 2002, I approached each of my three kids individually and asked if, instead of going to school, they’d rather stay home to learn. The choice to leave school was unanimous. My kids are all in their twenties now, and I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that choosing unschooling was the most pivotal—and valuable—choice I’ve made in my life so far.
Choosing to live and learn without school isn’t as intimidating as you might imagine. Children really do enjoy learning when it’s driven by curiosity rather than curriculum, and the strong and trusting relationships that develop in unschooling families are priceless. Having solid information about unschooling freely available was very helpful to me when I began my unschooling journey all those years ago, and it’s what I strive to share with anyone who’s looking for something beyond the compulsory school system and conventional parenting advice.
With the podcast, I get to share some amazing stories and insights from unschooling families around the world. Sometimes it feels like we’re so alone in choosing unschooling and I love being a reminder that there really are lots of us out there!
Although distributing a podcast is free, creating and sharing episodes is not! There are a myriad of expenses, including the software for editing the audio and video for each episode, the cost of hosting the ever-growing archive of episode audio files that the podcast players access, and the cost of podcast transcription.
There's also the time involved. Each weekly episode typically takes around ten hours to produce: researching guests, developing the questions, recording the call, editing the audio and video files, producing the transcript, and getting it all up on my website and ready to release each Thursday morning.
My wish is to keep the full podcast library freely available to anyone who's curious to learn more about unschooling. Small amounts, even $1 a month, not only give people a way to show their support, they add up! This is how Patreon shines.
As a small token of my immense gratitude, you’ll find some fun rewards at the different pledge levels! Desktop wallpapers. All my unschooling books. My audiobooks. A monthly unschooling bee, aka an hour-long video chat. And all patrons get access to the behind-the-scenes things I post.
Thank you SO much for your support. I am incredibly grateful. I couldn't do this without you!
PLEASE NOTE: Your rewards will be sent to the email address you use for your Patreon account.
