Hey, Everybody!

Thank you for checking out the Fatesjoke Studios Patreon page.
My name is Shawn and I'll be your guide from here.

A few years ago I started developing video games and applications for the web and Android devices. After discovering that I had a lot of fun coming up with interesting, and personally challenging, projects and seeing them come to fruition I decided to put a name to the growing collection of completed games/apps. Having used "Fatesjoke" for nearly a decade in my writing and video projects, I added the "Studios" and began building an online presence for my new creative endeavors.

I have worked on a number of various projects while exploring the world of game and app development, from games like Hipster Bingo to an optician training program. I am often working on multiple projects at the same time, switching between them as I look for creative inspiration and/or build technical skill in a specific area that I need to see an idea work out in a project. Because of this there can be a pretty long stretch of time between a project being announced and it being completed. Development rarely stops on a project completely, as long as there is enough interest in something I will keep investing time and energy into seeing it being released.

While app and game development is a hobby of mine and something that I like to do for fun, I do hope to make some money with my projects. I prefer to release my projects for free and if it fits the theme of the app or game have things you can pay to unlock within the app. My dream is to see a stream of income from my projects that will justify me spending more and more time improving what I have produced and working on new ideas until I can develop full time while travelling the country in a van.

Current Projects:

Message Drop: A free anonymous, location based messaging application. It's kind of like a virtual, temporary, tagging application but without the vandalism. It's also designed to be a way for people to get help in an emergency or to be social without putting yourself at risk. The app is currently in testing phase and I am just working on the push notifications before it'll be ready for wide release.

- Dead Drop: Dead Drop is basically Message Drop but with a feature that allows you to drop a message that only a passcode can retrieve. It's still an anonymous, location based messaging application but with encryption. It's kind of like a virtual, temporary, tagging application but without the vandalism. It's also designed to be a way for people to get help in an emergency or to be social without putting yourself at risk. The app is currently in testing phase and I am just working on the push notifications before it'll be ready for wide release.

- Optician Training App: Still in the early phase of development; this app is meant to help aspiring and experienced opticians gain and increase their skill set to better perform their jobs. It is also meant to be a learning tool for those trying to take and pass their ABO exam. The point of this app is to be totally inclusive about optics and cover everything from the eyeballs to frame materials.

American Villainy: Still under development, American Villainy is my first attempt at an RPG/Strategy game. I have learned A LOT working on this game and while I've encountered a few walls that I need to get over before I can expand the game, I have created the first two chapters and feel that it is a pretty solid example of the range of things I can manage as a developer. Does it need work? Yeah, it needs a lot of work, but I'd rather wait until I can give it the attention it deserves.

- Realms of Villainy: My first real venture in the Strategic Role Playing Game genre; Realms of Villainy is a futuristic, science fiction game with a focus on both RPG and strategy elements of game play. I don't want to say too much about this game because it is where most of my free time is going right now and I want to be able to release this with some degree of secrecy.

If you like what I do with Fatesjoke Studios and would consider buying some stranger over the internet the equivalent of a cup of coffee, I would very much appreciate it.

Without patron support I'll still invest my time and energy into new projects and improving the projects I have created because I love seeing my ideas realized, but support is motivation and money helps me justify the hours of coding necessary in making an app or game into something.

Patreon is about frequency and quality. The more you support Fatesjoke Studios the more I'm able to do.

I can't promise deadlines (I do have a 9-5 job), but I can assure you that I will continue to invest time and effort into Fatesjoke Studios projects and your support will help me see what projects should be my priority when it comes to my free time.

Thank you for your ongoing support, it really is a huge deal for me and I very much appreciate it.

What I will do with your money:

- I go through a ton of notepads, Post-It Notes, and pens when working on projects. Design ideas, story line thoughts, project flow charts, names, etc. So many things are written down and crossed out and then rewritten, it's insane how many notebooks are on my table right now.

- I really suck at visual art. Like, I am totally horrible at it. Right now I tend to find what free images I can and then look for great deals on what I cannot find for free. Because of this there tends to be a less than ideal collection of visuals in my apps and games. Being able to commission art assets for my projects would take things to another level, one that would allow me to really support fellow artists.

- The programs I use cost money. Most have adopted an annual licensing fee and those are not cheap. Being a patron would help me pay those annual costs.

- Right now I can't afford to be an iOS developer. The annual fee is about $100 and I release my projects for free (some with in-app purchases). If I had the support out there to justify the iOS developer costs I would do it in a heart beat.

Thank you so much for all your support! I appreciate it more than you can imagine and it really helps me out.

You love the idea of a science fiction RPG/Strategy game with a lot of gameplay depth and an amazing storyline. You want to see if you can control the 12 realms of Terra Nueva. You want to know how many agents you can keep alive... I've said too much.
