If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him. We must never forget that art is not a form of propaganda; it is a form of truth.
~ John F. Kennedy

I am a songwriter, a singer, a poet and an essayist/blogger. I spend countless hours reading, researching and writing in solitude at my desk and at my piano. I also absolutely love performing my music as a band with other musicians and do so live as often as I can. Whether live or in the studio, I feel honoured to be able to work with the prestigious and inspiring jazz musicians I am surrounded by. To be notified when I will be playing in your area track me on Bandsintown! Because apart from becoming one of my virtual patrons on Patreon, you can show your support and love by coming to my shows and buying my CDs!

Since moving to Los Angeles in 2006, I have not only recorded songs but have also fallen in love with recording my poetry in a very unique way. Usually this is done by recording individual tracks and by overdubbing and editing. I only record live and the tracks from the studio sessions are unedited. I call this unique approach – a dialogue between my narrative and the musician’s improvisational expression – Jazzoetry. In 2010 I released an EP called "During The Hours" and am currently working on many more pieces evolving mainly around female topics for a full-length album – listen to an excerpt of my piece "A Breath She Took" by clicking on the title.

Stylistically, I feel compelled to write songs and create musical poems people have at least an intuitive understanding of. These are stories most people can relate to and ideally, feel emotionally touched by, even if it's in a bad or upsetting way. Good art doesn't have to be complicated, but as sensitive and as sincere as possible which is why the motto of my own record label Moontraxx that I founded in 2009, is: "A Popular Approach to Intelligent Music"!

Here are some quotes by other people and what they have said about my work:

Livings shows a deep understanding of love, loneliness, passion and acceptance, and ably articulates every emotion in her songs. (…) She has a truly gifted approach in telling a story, Frances Livings style
~ Cassandra Walker (The Entertainment Bank)

This [the album "The World I Am Livings In"] is actually more a piece of art than it is music, (…) thus, don’t do anything else once you’ve tossed the disc on, or you’ll miss more than you ever guessed was there.
~ Mark S. Tucker (Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange)

Frances Livings has a beautiful voice and the jazz accompaniment pairs perfectly with her words (…) a beautiful CD that I would urge anyone to purchase.
~ The Poethound

Frances Livings is a wonderful singer
~ Michele Wilson-Morris (The Entertainment Bank)

My first full-length album, "The World I am Livings In" (2013), features my original songs (click on the title to listen to full-length songs or download the album) that plays like a book of twelve musical short stories. Many tell of loss but they all depict the strength of the human spirit.

Although I only write my songs and poems in English, I have learnt to sing in five languages: I'm fluent in German and sing also in French, Spanish and Portuguese. In addition to continuously working on new songs and poems, I have developed this passion for foreign languages. As a musician it's the different sounds and rhythms that fascinate me.

So a few years ago, I went into another, more Latin jazz direction, together with the guitarist and jazz composer Greg Porée, and in 2016 released a multi-lingual Nu-jazz/Latin-pop album called "Ipanema Lounge" with beautiful songs in French, Spanish, English and Portuguese. The album was released world-wide as the sixth album in my label Moontraxx that I founded in 2009. Please go to my Bandcamp page, to iTunes or Spotify and download the album there. I am currently adding German songs to my repertoire.

Patreon provides a unique opportunity for YOU to fund work that you believe in for a very low cost. Every little bit helps. With your support I can continue to provide music and poetry at a high level. Which is basically what I am asking from you... your support for my work and along the line for the recording artists I work with too. because I strongly believe in paying artists for their work. Not only I have to pay my rent but the other musicians do too. Even if it's a small budget I am sometimes dealing with, I insist on showing other artists my respect and honoring their time, craft and dedication.

My short term goals is to be able to cover some basic bills and therefore have enough time to steadily and continuously write and record. By being on Patreon and receiving some support from you, will enable me to carry on doing so - whether its working on new material or making studio recordings of my songs, researching and learning international chansons, expanding my Nu-jazz creations or my musical poetry.

Thank you!

Goals
$0 of $800 per per new song or musical poem created
Your contributions to this goal would serve the musicians I insist on paying a fair amount for new jazzoetry recordings.
