Hi! I'm a journalist fascinated by the way people connect with one another. With fellow journalists increasingly being seen as an "enemy of the people" creating "fake news," and distrust of the media seeming to grow every day, I decided to explore the relationships between journalists and their audiences in a new project.

On Frenemy of the People I host discussions and interview journalists about their work, and then we get down to the tough stuff - why do they do what they do? Who is it really for? What responsibility do they feel toward their audiences? How do they handle feedback? What kind of mistakes have they made, and how do they learn to do better?

My hope is that FotP will do one (or, if I'm lucky, all) of these things:

1. Encourage journalists to be more transparent about how and why they do the work they do
2. Encourage more curiosity and discussion among audiences about how journalism is made
3. Entertain and educate you (and me!)

I'm doing this by myself, in my free time, so some of your contributions will go toward my time, writing, interviewing, and editing, as well as podcasting equipment. Each month, I will also donate to a media-related nonprofit chosen by a guest. Nonprofits may include organizations such as the National Association for Media Literacy Education, the Committee to Protect Journalists, Pro Publica, etc.
