I have been painting since 2006.  Art began as a way for me to escape my frenzied thinking as I was pursuing a degree in philosophy, and remained that as I struggled with mental illness throughout my 20s.  Now, after three hospitalizations, I'm doing well and maintaining my mental health.  Purely abstract art served as a vacation from my brain, and in the last year I've moved toward mixed media to use art as a means of thought rather than as an escape from it, approaching such issues as body dysmorphia, imposter syndrome, and interpersonal loss.  Making these pieces is a means of expression and catharsis but also a way to connect with other people by starting conversations, and I've been displaying some of these pieces at cafes and small group shows around Chicago.  My goal is to continue exploring various media (and hopefully take an art class for the first time!), work on a larger scale, and apply to more shows.

$15 will allow me to buy a new set of brushes, two tubes of paint, or a new piece of plexiglass on which to paint!

Thank you so much for your support.  $50 will buy a new medium-sized wooden panel for me to work on.
