About Jack

Hi! My name is Jack and I'm a weirdo from Canada who has been making fun video games since I was thirteen. I'm currently an amateur, making fun video games out of my bedroom. As it turns out, making fun video games is really, really difficult.

That's where you come in!

Making video games is very difficult. Games are made by teams varying in size from tens to even hundreds of people. But for the sake of creative freedom and complete control of my projects, I work primarily alone. This puts significant restrictions on what I'm able to put in my games. In game development I have to do:

All the code.

All the art.

All of the design.

All of the brilliant writing.

All of these things are necessary to make a quality product, and I don't have the time or energy to be doing this much work without a monetary incentive. At least, not quickly. I’d like to release more than two good games before I kick the bucket. I haven’t even mentioned audio engineering and composing, an element I'd have to pay other creators to help me with.

Games are an enormously important part of my life. Games have given me comfort in times of need, friends in times of isolation, and inspiration when life is at its bleakest. I want to contribute my work to the games community, but I want that contribution to be meaningful and quality, and I can only do that with full creative control of my projects, working alone.

Until I have a finished and marketable product, I won't be able to earn anything off of my work. And until I can earn something off of my work, I won't be able to finish any products.

This is the most important question!

Since September 2018 I've been working on a "Metroidvania" platformer that currently goes by the name "GAM". I decided to focus this project less on having a single gimmick mechanic to revolve gameplay around like most indie games, and instead focus on my core design philosophies and creating a solid memorable gameplay experience.

The game has come a long way since September of 2018!

...But there's a long way to go.

There is a playable proof of concept that you can play right now, which is available here for free! I'm currently working on a second, more fleshed out demo and when that is finished the games full form will begin to take shape.
