The Geeky Chef is creating recipes for fictional foods!

Food is universal, which makes it an important part of world-building in any fiction. It can convey a sense of comfort and familiarity or mystery and otherness. It adds depth and complexity to characters, places and cultures. I am Cassandra Reeder, creator of The Geeky Chef. One of my favorite hobbies is making culinary creations based on fictional foods from fantasy and sci-fi. I've done this as far back as I can remember. Just ask my big brother, who helped me make Tree-Star cookies after I saw The Land Before Time in 1992. Please don't ask me how old I am.

Although creating foods from fantasy and sci-fi has always been a hobby of mine, it wasn't until much later that I began putting my hobby on the internet. The Geeky Chef adventure began on one cold and rainy night in 2008.  The food that inspired me to create the blog was Yeto's Pumpkin and Goat Cheese Soup from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I just couldn't believe no one else had been compelled to share a recipe for this delicious sounding soup. This was before there were many (if any) blogs devoted exclusively to creating recipes for fictional or unique foods from stories... So, I took up the golden gauntlet, so to speak, and began making and posting recipes for other fictional foods.

In 2014, The Geeky Chef Cookbook was published by Quarto Publishing Group. After the success of the first book, The Geeky Chef became a cookbook series! Two more books have been published since the first: The Geeky Chef Strikes Back and The Geeky Chef Drinks. That's right, it's trilogy now. It has been a dream come true for me and I have you, dear readers, to thank for it. So, thank you. Sincerely! You got Geeky Chef this far... Can you help it go even further?

I would love to focus more on Geeky Chef. Making it bigger, better and more engaging. Instead of spending most of my time and energy on a pesky day job, I would love to make quality recipes, cookbooks and potentially, recipe videos and/or streams, full time. Anything you contribute here will help The Geeky Chef's free online content get better. At this point, you may be asking, "you have published cookbooks, don't you get money from that?" The answer is yes, I totally do. And if you want to leave right now and purchase one of those books instead, please do that! That's an excellent way to support the Geeky Chef brand! But, authors of niche cookbooks with very modest followings... Well, we don't exactly get Stephen King royalties. Suffice to say, it's definitely not a living.

You may thinking, "Meh, I'm not really that emotionally invested in you, Geeky Chef." I know, and that's okay. I have always tried to avoid the here's-my-entire-life-story-before-the-recipe phenomenon on my posts. I try to focus on the food and the fandom in my content, always. However, if you'd like to know my life story, as well as other exclusive behind-the-scenes Geeky Chef stuff, that's what becoming a patron is for! Don't worry, you'll be getting something more tangible than my company in return for your generosity. Each contribution will yield it's own tasty rewards. You can even commission me to make a recipe for your favorite fictional food! Let's embark on this culinary adventure together!
