WHO IS GUITAR PILGRIM?

Where to begin! I can remember vividly the first time I discovered music, it was 1987 and Paul Mccartney had just released his latest single ‘Once upon a long ago’. I was eight years old at the time and didn’t know anything about Paul McCartney, whatsoever, but I liked the tune every time it came on the radio, it had something about it. It was my older brother who told me that McCartney used to be in a band that made some ‘pretty decent music’, as he put it. Not long after, my mother bought me my first vinyl record... Abbey Road.... I can still remember the moment like it was yesterday, putting the needle on the record...

It felt like the earth stood still, I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY, it truly was a life-altering experience, it felt like a whole bunch of butterflies was coming out of my chest! I knew right then and there that I was to become a musician, that was it, and I never looked back.

Years later, I went to the conservatoire (Dutch College of Music) ready to study more guitar, thinking I was going to spend more time playing the blues and Jimi Hendrix... but instead they had me practicing scales to no end... I was fed up with playing the guitar within 3 months and decided to quit, and didn’t play guitar for the next 4 years, instead decided to study Classical Piano. And boy, that was great fun, learning pieces by Mozart and Chopin! It wasn’t easy though, at one point I was studying Tchaikovsky's Piano concerto when I got so frustrated that I wasn’t able to play the piece properly, I suddenly ripped the sheet music into little pieces... my piano teacher was not amused, to say the least...

After finishing my studies I went to Leiden, a very nice Dutch city, close to Amsterdam, where I started to teach private guitar lessons and have been doing so ever since. In the beginning it was fine, but after a while I started noticing I was having more and more thoughts like: ‘Is this all there is in life?

At one point I realized I needed to make a decision, am I going to live 90 years, or live one year 90 times? It was then that I decided to do Youtube and give it everything I had, for better or worse, and pursue a dream of helping and inspiring as many people as I possibly can, perhaps even one day, being able to do it full time...

Why the name guitar pilgrim? Well, the name comes from a woman that called herself Peace Pilgrim. She had no belongings and walked across the United States for over 35 years, for peace. Without the backing of any organization, solely reliant on the kindness and goodness of other people to give her food and shelter, not even willing to accept any money.
Incredible story. I remind myself, if she was able to show that kind of courage and faith, then I should also have a bit faith that this Youtube adventure eventually will work out fine, so Guitar Pilgrim it is!

In the Netherlands we have a saying 'Als je het doet, doe het dan goed' which means ‘If you’re going to do it, you might as well go all the way’. So I decided to go all the way, quit everything, leave the Netherlands, and go and live in Ireland to improve my English speaking skills. And here we are!
Words cannot begin to express the gratitude and thanks I feel for all you people here on on patreon who have decided to give their support and allowing me this chance to continue making videos!!

THANK YOU PATRONS, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart!!!

GOD BLESS!
