WHO AM I:
Hi, my name is Ismael Kouyate and I am here to make the world dance.

WELCOME! I am a dancer and musician from Guinea, West Africa. I was born into a long line of 'Griots' who are the people that preserve the history and culture of Africa through songs, stories, music and dance.

I began dancing professionally when I was only 12, and was recruited by Les Percussions de Guinee' to perform in their international tour. Then in 2004, I was talented enough to join Ballets Africains, the National Dance Company of Guinea, for their 50th Anniversary Tour of the US. It was called Jubilee!. By the end of this tour I was contracted by the team of Fela! to serve as a Master Choreographer and performed a principle role for the broadway production. If you've ever seen it, Fela says, “Hey Ismael" and I began a full litany of movement, dance and spirit that sent audiences to their feet nightly.

I toured with Fela! from its humble off-Broadway roots in 2008 through its final international tours.
I have been lucky enough to have been featured on a CNN special on Africa in America and in the studio with Beyonce, adding my Guinean vocals to her hit, “Grown Woman”, the single that is featured on her Pepsi commercial.

Now I teach classes of over 100s of people in New York City where they ecstatically learn and model off of my movements. I regularly perform as an individual musician and with my band, Ismael & the Radiant Select, and my West African Dance Company, African Soul International.

WHAT WE ARE CREATING:
This journey is about bringing African music and dance to the world. With my band, with my dance company, with my students, I work every day to make this dream, a reality. It is important to spread the message of the history and culture of Africa to the world. I want to make people dance, I want them to feel it and I want them to feel connected to each other and history through the movement and the music. I am currently working on producing an album and music video for my new song, "Africa Love".

Please join me in making this a reality!
