I blame Buffy and The Velveteen Rabbit

Reading The Velveteen Rabbit as a child apparently had a profound effect on me. My mother will tell you that, when I was little, any time I was given the opportunity to select a new stuffed animal for my menagerie I'd always choose the one with crossed eyes, or an ear sewn on crooked. I'd spend a lot of time looking for the one that wasn't perfect. She'd point out the defect and ask me if I wanted to choose a better one. "I want this one," I'd say, "because no one else will want it and it will end up alone." I've carried that mentality all through my life. I love old dogs and feral cats because people rarely give them a chance. I've adopted animals that are dying, crippled, blind, timid, abused, neglected, and scarred. The "special" ones, they're my tribe. I've been blessed to live on a family farm in one of the most beautiful places in the country. I currently share that with 4 old sheep, 2 elderly llamas, a senior alpaca, a donkey, 2 dogs, and 23 cats. Almost all of my animals are rescues and most of those would not be alive now if I hadn't taken them in. We also feed a herd of semi-tame deer and quite a few possums and raccoons. It doesn't seem like a lot considering I once helped care for over 90 furry friends, but I'm older now, my parents are older, and the upkeep on a 40-acre farm full of animals is not as easy as it used to be. As my old friends go on to heaven, I haven't added many new ones. You have to know your limits-- physically, emotionally, and financially. I try to make up for that by fostering cats and kittens for my local shelter when I'm needed. I've launched this Patreon page as a way to connect more closely with my fans while helping my animals and because I need another stream of income for my farm. There is a lot of maintenance that I need to hire help for, as my parents and I are no longer physically able to do it. Either that, or we'll be forced to sell our farm and downsize. I love this land. I hope you will too. I've sacrificed a lot, personally, for it. When you have a farm you don't get sick days, vacation days, holidays or date nights very often. But there is no place in the world I'd rather be and I'm not going to give it up without a fight. Subscribing to my page isn't going to fund any sort of lavish lifestyle. I haven't taken a vacation in 18 years; I haven't slept for 8 consecutive hours since 2006; and I'm sitting here writing this in a shirt that I've owned since my junior year in high school. Everything we have goes toward taking care of the 33 animals (and various wildlife) on this farm who depend on us. So if my farm photos brought you here, please consider supporting these wonderful animals by subscribing to my page. I have 20+ years of farm stories to tell and I've known hundreds of beautiful animal souls who have touched my life and shaped my world. And, hopefully, I will know many more to come. I'd love to share them with you!

If my writing brought you here, I probably don't have to explain Buffy. I was a little late jumping on the Buffy bandwagon. Not gonna lie; it sounded dumb. Then, at the insistence of a good friend, I watched an episode. I was immediately enthralled by the idea of a female character who didn't have to have a hero to save her. And, at the end of my 20's when things were starting to sag and fall apart, the idea of vampires being young forever didn't suck either. I started reading all the vampire books I could find. This was before Twilight and the whole vampire craze, so it didn't take me long. Eventually I ran out of vampire romances and then I ran out of Buffy, so I decided to make my own entertainment. That's when Cin Craven was born. I was blessed with a publishing opportunity and cursed with (mostly) horrible covers. The books were well-reviewed, but didn't sell. I was advised by my agent that if I wanted to continue my writing career I needed and new name and a new story because I'd never get anyone to publish any more Cin Craven books. It was a pretty dark time for me. Then real life, farm life, got in the way and I chalked my writing career up to a failed dream and moved on. But I never forgot my characters or the stories they still had to tell. Now, with so many of my older farm animals having gone on to heaven, my responsibilities have lessened a bit and I finally have the time that I've lacked for the past decade. I'm thankful to be living in an era where self-publishing is an option so I can continue writing this series. I'm excited to jump in and see what new stories I can offer my readers who have stuck with me and the new ones I have yet to meet.

Subscribe to my Patreon page and come with me on this journey! We'll write some books, enjoy the beauty of the north Georgia mountains, get to know some amazing animals, and save some lives along the way!
