About Jeremy Roberts

It's not smooth sailing trying to make a living as a journalist, and I've always found it extremely difficult if not impossible to ask for financial help. Besides working odd jobs, much of my writing appears on Medium as part of their Partner Program. For the month of October I netted $8.71. If you stumble upon an interview of mine and wish to contribute a dollar or more so I can continue tracking down pop culture artists, conducting phone / email interviews, transcribing, editing, and securing photos, it will be really appreciated and never forgotten. Below you can learn more about what I do along with links.

I am a lifelong Georgia resident with agricultural roots in blueberry research and production. A recipient of the University of Georgia’s Master of Agricultural Leadership degree, during my thesis research I tracked down students and alumni, listened to their recommendations for future bachelor degrees and whether they were satisfied with the campus’s curriculum, and reported my findings. Today two new baccalaureate programs are available at UGA's satellite campus in Tifton—Agribusiness and Biological Science.

Once I began pursuing a freelance journalism career, I developed a knack for interviews, press releases, social media, photography, and communicating with multiple sources to ensure accuracy. John Wayne's surviving sons Patrick and Ethan, Steve McQueen's widow Barbara Minty, Dean Martin's daughter Deana, Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Rick Nelson, Jerry Reed, the Monkees, Fleetwood Mac, Merle Haggard, James Burton, B.J. Thomas, Glen Campbell, the Dillards, Clint Black, Thompson Square, Mo Pitney, Collective Soul, the Pointer Sisters, Bobbie Gentry, Beth Brickell, Lee Purcell, Warren Oates, Peter Fonda, Lee Marvin, Richard Boone, Audie Murphy, World War II Private Bud Tucker, the Western film genre, and the birthplace of rock 'n' roll, Memphis, have all been extensively covered or interviewed in my Medium column.

I kick-started a grassroots fundraising campaign for the historic 80-year-old Alapaha Gym, then experiencing severe roof leakage and ceiling/wall disintegration. After writing about the structure’s plight, spending face time with local merchants, targeting social media, and coordinating a WALB Channel 10 camera crew’s roundtable interview of concerned citizens, we raised over $50,000 in donations.

Actively participating with the Alapaha Voting Precinct, Alapaha Station Celebration, Alapaha Easter Passion Play, and at church provides inner contentment. My passions range from reading pop culture biographies, catching classic cinema, listening to most any record cut in the sixties and seventies, yard renovation, to always being a good listener.
