First and foremost, welcome! My name is Jessica, and over the past few years I've made it my mission to give permanent sanctuary to disabled, special-needs, adopted, and rescued reptiles, amphibians, and other small pets. It started with three adopted rats in April of 2013, and now I have an animal family of over 40.

In 2014 I started the Instagram page Jessica's Animal Friends. At the time, I had no idea where I was taking the page. I mostly just wanted to be a part of the animal community there. Over time, the page become a place to give and receive advice about the care of various species. I was able to share the tales of many animals: Louie, the escaped or set loose pet rat who made my garage his home before living in my bedroom; Ree, the crested gecko that wouldn't grow; Ron, the axolotl with a prolapsed cloacal, and more. But I think the greatest thing that came out of the IG page is my discovery of Enigma Syndrome.

Enigma Syndrome is a neurological condition that leopard geckos of the enigma morph are at risk for. The symptoms of ES are noticeable; balance and coordination suffer as a result. Geckos with ES star gaze, circle, wobble, and death roll, especially when stressed. They have poor aim when it comes to hunting, and they can have a difficult time shedding, too. Geckos who have ES often require hand-feeding, assisted sheds, and other special treatment in order to not only survive but thrive. There is no cure, and the condition is life-long. Here at Jessica's Animal Friends Sanctuary live nine enigmas, and outside of my enigmas I have three leopard geckos with neurological conditions.

In addition to having geckos with neurological disorders, I have animals with stunted growth, humpbacks, facial and body deformities, impaired vision, reproductive issues, and more. The animals in my care that have no special needs or health issues came from situations of adoption and rescue. The animals here will remain here for the rest of their lives.

This year (2018) I have made it my goal to educate people across various platforms about the care requirements and behavioral tendencies for a plethora of species as well as the ethics that go into breeding problematic morphs. I also have made it my goal to share the lives of my 40+ animal friends, both the good times and the bad.

At this time I continue to take in animals in need of permanent sanctuary when I can, but I am out of space and financial resources as I fund the sanctuary through my own earnings. As a patron you will be supporting my ability to educate and interact with pet owners, but more imporantly you will be supporting my ability to bring more special needs animals into my family as well as care for the ones already here. For that I am forever grateful.

Thank you so much for your interest in me and my animal friends. I do this for them, but people like you make it that much more fulfilling. As a patron you will support not only my passion and my hobby, but the lives of various animals as you learn about their unique circumstances and personalities. Thank you, truly, from them and from me.

Please check out the sanctuary's Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. They are all by the name Jessica's Animal Friends. Thank you.
