These are strange times. For whatever the reason, the normal channels of making one's way in the music business have been disrupted. And now my 30+ years experience in producing music, motion picture soundtracks, public radio and TV are not very applicable today.

What does remain constant in all my work however is a longing for the REAL. Words like "authentic" or "genuine" fall flat in the face of experiencing music as merely the audible transmission of a living culture. And its that experience I always strive for. Today at 50 years old, I have never been more clear or ready to create more

But it's been a "tough row to hoe" as Mississippi John Hurt would say. There hasn't been much recompense to the many projects I've devoted myself to for the last three decades. I don't have much to show for it frankly, and like many these days I tend to live by the skin of my teeth. What I do have to show however is a wealth of experiences and stories that I can now share with you.

Though I live and work as a functionary musician in New Orleans, playing the music that most tourists expect to hear, my sights are set upon a new adventure as a singer-songwriter presenting my unique perspective. My second solo release will center around almost entirely Jewish themes, drawn from my early years growing up in Stillwater OK, to my career as a performer and pedagogue of Yiddish music Internationally. As this is what Capitalism calls a "vanity," to support my efforts I must now return to one of the oldest techniques used to support artists: relying upon a patron to fund their efforts. Why do they do this? Because they are believers.

Thank you for believing in me.

Goals
$0 of $6,500 per month
To record, press, distribute and hire radio promotion for my next solo release, working title "The Hangman's Daughter." I will be exploring almost exclusively Jewish themed material, much of it inspired by my many travels to Europe and points East. Did not set out to make this record, but the songs came to me and I must abide.
