About

I've been drawing since I could hold a crayon and I wish I could say that I loved history for as long. I was not a fan of the social studies growing up. It was boring. It took a teacher that brought his passion and breathed life into it that made me connect with it. That's what I try to to achieve with History Illustrated.

When I first started teaching history I struggled to find a way to make my class my own. All it took was a little drawing though. I started illustrating vocabulary words on the dry erase board everyday and students had to analyze it and write their own definition. I felt I was on to something. My passion for history and drawing merged.

Over time I started doing it in video format so that kids could see them at home or watch them at their own pace, or over and over again. I also posted them online in case any other teacher found a use for them.

Years went by and I occasionally got thank you messages from students, teachers, parents and other history buffs. I didn't think too much of my YouTube channel, but I was glad they found it helpful.

More years went by and it I finally noticed that my channel had begun to grow without any additional videos being added. More messages flooded in... and I realized that I should continue the path I initially started on when I began teaching. I love drawing and I love history, but more than that I really love knowing that more than my own students benefit from what I do. People from around the world found my explanations useful. That still blows my mind.

I offer everything I create free of charge through YouTube or on my website HistoryIllustrated.org. However, I did set up this Patreon in an attempt to monetize my endeavors. We all know living on a teacher's salary has its struggles. So, consider becoming a patron and together we can make some truly great social studies content for kids.
