About

Like most artists and gig workers, I have been hit hard by the coronavirus shutdowns, cancellations, and moratoriums. 2020 was to be my very first year of working solely for myself with no side hustles but instead of gearing up for a busy festival season, one week, I have watched thousands of dollars worth of gigs disappear in under a week. While I know that everyone is hurting right now and that some may not be able to contribute during a time like this, if you are someone who still finds themselves with some extra pocket cash this month (and the coming months), please consider donating (even $5 per month can make a huge difference right now) to this Patreon and others if you can. See below for some of the incredibly important things I have working on right now that will get to continue with your help even during these bizarre and trying times:

Katie Sikora Photography (http://www.katiesikora.com)
I started my business in undergrad when I was informed that yes, in fact we did get paid to shoot for the college paper and have been shooting professionally since then. I left Florida after graduation to work as the Photo Editor at a small newspaper in Door County, Wisconsin followed by a Media Strategy position at Levy Restaurants in Chicago, Illinois. After moving to New Orleans in 2014, I worked for over a year at the WWII Museum at a Visual Archivist before spending many years juggling KSP and side gigs until reaching 2020, the first time I would be able to support myself by myself.

fluff magazine (https://medium.com/fluffmag)
A freshly created online magazine full of human interest stories that back in the day might have been sloshed over to the human interest section at the back of the newsroom. At fluff, we're bringing those viewpoints to the forefront. Described as "human interest stories for the millennial soul", we are here to bring you true, unwavering stories from all side of the human experience. If you are also at all interested in writing and/or shooting for fluff, please reach out at [email protected]

The Sexism Project (https://www.thesexismproject.com)
This project does indeed have its very own Patreon page but if you want your pledge to support all of these things at once and more, this is the place to be. The Sexism Project is an ongoing interview and portrait series of real women in real industries experiencing real sexism. Think Humans of NY but waaaaaaay more important and feminine and timely (shoutout to Humans of NY, you're awesome and no offense). Our first installment featured women in the New Orleans music community and we are currently working on our second installment that highlights sex workers in New Orleans as they combat ongoing legislation and moral zealots attempting to shut down their clubs and in turn, prevent them from supporting themselves and their families. Our third installment is in the works and is coming soon but we cannot reveal our secrets for this season just yet.

I have been humbled so much by the outpouring of support I have seen for artists, performers, gig workers, and the service industry as a whole and I cannot wait for all the insanely amazing shows and exhibits and albums that result from this bizarre test of our artistic wills. Thank you for your kindness and generosity in these unprecedented times.

Goals
$236 of $500 per month
Once I reach $500 a month I will begin hold monthly live Q&A sessions for all my patrons to ask me any questions about what it means to be a working photographer and a journalist in the digital age.
