Hi everyone! Let's see if we can use Patreon as an alternative and fun way to raise funds for Kesha Niya, the refugee solidarity kitchen you may already be familiar with!

The idea is this:
You become a regular supporter of our Patreon, and in return, you receive regular artwork made by the creatives of Kesha Niya (more about us below).

In other words, you get a membership to exclusive creative content, and at the same time you enable us to continue our work: cooking food and providing facilities for refugees stranded on the streets of Italian border town Ventimiglia.

Where the money goes:
Thanks to the donations we receive, we can
- cook nutritious warm meals daily
- drive the food from kitchen to location
- maintain the kitchen, maintain the van
- distribute clothes, blankets, tents, and hygienic products

We hope this is not only a way to attract more (and more steady) financial support, but also to reward those who regularly support us. This action is only possible thanks to Kesha Niya's many supporters everywhere, and we are extremely grateful for all your contributions!

About Kesha Niya
Kesha Niya is a grassroots organisation, working in solidarity with and for refugees in Europe to give aid during one of the worst humanitarian crises of our lifetimes. Kesha Niya (Sorani Kurdish for "No Problem") was founded in march 2016, after 'La Liniere' Camp in Grande Synthe had been opened in response to the inhumane living conditions in the Grande Synthe jungle. We strongly believe current borders stand in the way of freedom, safety and human rights for all. Borders lead not only to further racism, xenophobia and hatred, but also force people into a position where they're at incredible risk of persecution and often death. We believe that human rights should not depend on where you are born or live and that all people should be offered the same opportunities.
A unique characteristic of Kesha Niya is to put emphasis on collaborating and involving refugees in the organisation, aiming for a solidarity action rather than a charity action.
These days we provide food daily for people in the Italian city of Ventimiglia, right in front of the French border, and support with blankets, clothes, and such basic necessities.

About the current situation
At the French-Italian border, in the town of Ventimiglia, a fluctuating number of refugees are sleeping rough in a space under a highway bridge. They mean to attempt the rough mountain climb into Europe, often getting immediately deported back to Italy again and again. As local government shows no interest in providing basic human facilities, independent volunteers come to meet them in their journey to provide as many people as possible with necessary food and resources.
An accurate and enlightening report on Ventimiglia from July 2017:
Refugees on the Pass of Death between Italy and France, Al Jazeera

Also relevant is this 20-page comic report about Kesha Niya's work in Ventimiglia. It was done by Mas Hab - the creator of this Patreon ;P - and published on Drawing the Times.

About the artwork
Mas Hab will take responsibility for keeping a regular stream of content, so expect comics and illustrations! But there are plenty of creative volunteers coming and going at Kesha Niya, including photographers, craftspeople, and musicians. Details of individual contributors will be added as the work gets posted.

There will be incentives to reward larger donations, but you can donate any amount for a subscription.
