About KuduKudu

KuduKudu was founded by Diamond Thug’s Danilo Queiros in 2017 to support the release of Diamond Thug’s debut album: Apastron. We soon expanded to support other alternative South African artists like Amy AyandaAlbany Lore and Hyroine. We also act as a distribution partner for an integrated network of Independent South African Producers who help us find and develop young South African talent.

Our Artist-First strategy allows artists complete control of compositional decisions and has seen our releases gain over 4M streams across platforms in the first 12 months of our existence.

What is Artist-First?

KuduKudu is run by artists for artists. We don’t step into production. We don’t change lyrics or melodies, we simply develop strong release strategies and ensure the artist is fully equipped to produce the best music they can. We also ensure that KuduKudu artists receive a bigger share of the bucks than traditional labels by taking smaller cuts and have just launched our member-support system to help subsidise costs and boost artist earnings.

What is a Member-Support System and Where Does My Money Go?

Our member-support system is pretty simple. Everyone at KuduKudu loves the variety in South African music and wants to support independent musicians to ensure that we’re not drowning in more and more music that is written-for-radio. We figure there are a lot of Super Fans out there, much like ourselves, who might not have the time or knowledge to share, but want to be a part of our creations nevertheless. Members commit to a monthly fee of their choice (minimum R30/month) to supporting our artists directly. The fee is split into 3 categories: 1. Recording, 2. Mixing & Mastering, and 3. Marketing, the 3 key financial expenses that come with any release. Each release’s budget is set by the money pooled together by KuduKudu members. But it’s not like members are just philanthropes who aren’t expecting anything in return. We reward their love for South African Music with: South African Music! Free and early access to the entire KuduKudu music library, discounts on tickets to KuduKudu and Affiliate Artists’ shows, merch and more.
