Kyle Jorveis creating story-based illustrations
About Kyle Jorve
ABOUT MEMy name is Kyle, and I love stories! In particular I love writing and illustrating them. This Patreon is focused on the latter—the illustrations produced by the stories I write.
Strictly speaking, I have a love for many things creative—writing, illustration, and design, for starters—and it’s fair to say that I’m a jack of all trades. But stories are my bread and butter. They’re what get me up in the morning, and what continue to inspire me to create.
WHY SUPPORT ME?So, why should you support me?
Well, my primary sources of inspiration are video games—like Zelda, Assassin’s Creed, and Final Fantasy—and fantasy novels—like Robin Hobb’s Farseer Trilogy, Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller Chronicle, and Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. I draw heavily from these influences, and many have continuously inspired me since childhood.
So if you love artwork in the genres of fantasy, sci-fi, and story-driven video games, then I think you’ll enjoy my work, too.
Something else I think is worth mentioning is that I don’t do small projects. What does that mean? Well, while occasionally I’ll take a break from larger, more complex illustrations to make something simpler, I am generally incapable of doing small, simple things exclusively.
Nearly everything I start, however straightforward the original concept, grows and evolves to become something much more detailed and complex than initially planned. I suppose one reason for this is that I derive joy from really sinking my teeth into the gritty details of a piece.
In a practical sense, it means I’m always challenging myself. For you, this means, I hope, that you continue to be surprised by the work I put out, and that it never fails to engage you.
PERKS OF BEING A PATRONEvery patron, regardless of their level of support, receives instant, exclusive Discord community access.
In addition to that and insight into my process, depending on the tier you choose you will receive full-resolution final illustrations files (JPEG/TIFF), source files (PSD/AI), desktop and phone wallpapers, limited edition prints, full-length process videos with commentary, and other occasional surprise bonuses!
Pledging is, for now, on a per-creation basis. As I work full-time and my focus is currently so divided, it’s nearly impossible for me to post a completed illustration more than monthly, if that. But! When you become a patron you gain instant access to my entire archive of work, plus an immediate bonus drawing download as thanks.
Of course, if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to message or email me. I am always open to feedback, advice, and suggestions on what would engage you more as a patron or prospective patron. It is the least I can do for someone willing to support me and my work.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORTIt needs to be said: Your support means so much more to me than just your money.
For me, it’s a step closer to my dream, which is to be an independent artist supported solely by my own work, and to be able to focus exclusively on that work—on crafting stories and illustrating the worlds and characters that make them.
Even if your contribution is small, you make that dream just a bit more possible. My gratitude for this cannot be overstated.
Join me, and together I know we can make something amazing. And sincerely, from the bottom of my heart: thank you.
ABOUT MY WORKIf you wish to view my curated portfolio, you can find it here. Additionally, if you wish to find me on various social media channels, you may find links to a few of them at the top of this Patreon page. I’m also on ArtStation and tumblr.
Illustration-wise, I work pretty exclusively digitally these days, and I have a variety of styles I work in. I post illustrations, including paid posts, in both of the following styles on this Patreon—though that may change in the future, depending on patron response.
Primarily, I make paintings, like this:
…and isometric vector illustrations, like this:
So why do I work in so many styles? And why do I post so infrequently compared to other artists? Well, the answer to both those questions is that, as I mentioned above, I love too many things!
I work full-time as a web designer and front end developer, and my free time each week is divided between writing and illustrating. What I illustrate is usually related to what I’m writing at the time, and I tend to work on a single story for years before moving on or taking a break.
CURRENT PROJECTS: IGNOBLE BLOOD, ASHES OF THE EIDOLONSIgnoble Blood is the series of which my current project, Ashes of the Eidolons, is a part. My current illustration work is mostly based on Ignoble Blood, and on Ashes of the Eidolons in particular.
Ashes of the Eidolons centers on Pendrake Sommer, a young noble and son of the duke of Tersing, who becomes unwittingly enveloped in a plot to corrupt the future of Tersing. Not knowing who to trust, Pendrake must expose a treacherous conspiracy between a malicious foreign power and his own father before their plans can be realized. Ashes of the Eidolons is a work of political intrigue in a secondary-world fantasy setting.
Ignoble Blood is a series I’ve been working on since I conceived of the first story way back in 2011. In 2014 I finally sat down to write that first story, Seeds of the First Tree. Both it and the series as a whole have evolved and grown a LOT since then, and through working on it I have learned a great deal about writing and story construction in general.
Here are a few of the illustrations I’ve made for Ignoble Blood so far:
HOW PATRONAGE WORKSYou will not be charged right away when you sign up. Instead, from the point you become a patron, you will be charged on the first of the month following when I make a paid post.
So, for example, let’s say you sign up in September and I make a paid post in September, after you signed up. In that case, you would not be charged until October 1st, and you will receive your rewards shortly thereafter.
After every paid post I will send notifications via direct message that your rewards are ready to be received.
Discord community access.
Early access to view all WIPs and finished paintings.
Your name makes it into the comments section of every finished painting, no matter where it's posted.
In addition to all previous rewards, you receive downloads of full-res illustrations (JPEG/TIFF), layered source files (PSD/AI), and phone, tablet, and desktop wallpapers for all finished pieces.
You get full-length process videos with commentary, plus all previous rewards. (The general public only sees truncated process videos with no commentary.)
