About Brice Maiurro

My name is Brice Maiurro.

I am a poet, writer and doodler out of Denver, Colorado.

I recently quit my job of six years as a training supervisor to pursue my dream of becoming a full-time artist.

My poetry and writing have been featured largely in local publications and presses including The Denver Post, Suspect Press and Birdy Magazine. My writing is often times surreal and funny. For example, the piece I wrote for Birdy Magazine called "Central Park Love Story" is a short story about a man who decides he wants to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex who lives in Central Park. You can read that story here.

I am someone who writes to try to challenge the way that people see the world. I believe perception is reality and artists have the great opportunity to change the world around them. I think of Andre Breton who started surrealism. Through his book, Nadja, he helped redefine Paris as a surreal city, a city of dreams and wonder. I also think of someone like Shepherd Fairey, the street artist who started Obey. By putting his images out into the world on walls and street corners and bridges and anywhere, he was able to enter the conversation and grow that into the identity he has today.

This is what I hope to do with my art, which can be done through writing, but also with my favorite arthropod, Rant the Ant. Rant was a character born out of downtime between calls while working at a call center. I like the idea of Rant being on stickers and having these drawings of him throughout my life to reflect on not only the big moments in life but the mundane ones as well.

Thank you so much for your patronage. It's not an easy step to quit your job to follow your dreams, but I believe wholeheartedly in what I am doing. Changing the way that people see the world one poem or short story or doodle at a time.
