Who are you?

I am Mesut Kaya, from Germany. A nobody on YouTube, with 32 subscribers (Feb 2018). I’ve started my channel mid-2016, doing daily vlogs, which (almost) nobody watched. Then, at the end of 2016, I’ve decided to flex my motion design muscles and created a video essay about “Super Mario Run”, which a few more people watched. It took me over a year of unreleased videos, ideas and storyboards, to finally start working on the video you can see above this paragraph.

I’ve realised, that I can’t create the most engaging daily vlogs, and that I don’t want to go into deep analysis mode, for topical essays. I only want to tell stories I care about. I don’t want to rush videos for the sake of clicks, or waste time on videos I don’t care enough about.

Why do you need a Patreon for that?

I’m nowhere near to doing this full-time, but like anything you and I do, it’s all about prioritising what we have or want to do. YouTube is high up on my want-to-list, but very low on my have-to-list. By financially supporting me, you can help me to justify moving YouTube up this list. Never to a point, where I would abandon everyone I love and live in a cave, to do YouTube videos for the rest of my life, but you get the idea.

What are you using the money for?

For now I’m planning to create more videos like the “Foo Fighters” one. In this case I used midi-files to create the background music, but usually I create my own music for all my videos, which takes time, but is so far more rewarding for me personally.
Drawing and animating characters takes a lot of time, but I love to draw myself as a character, who’s (let’s be honest) a much better actor than me, with far better props and many more locations to choose from. Speaking of props, I also love to make my own props out of cardboard and film myself or others using them to make a point.

Filming will always be a part of my videos, so don’t be surprised to see videos, that are mostly filmed, without animation. There is and will be no formula to these videos. The use of music, animation, props and film is up to the story I want to tell.

How do I get rewarded by supporting you?

I had lots of fun drawing the “Rewards Story”, but choosing the rewards you would get, was really hard. I’m new to this and still need to figure out, how to reward you generous people, so it does not take away all the time I need to do videos, but also does not feel like ripping you off. I’m looking into creating physical rewards and how to get them to you. Until then, I hope the rewards are enough to show you, how thankful I am for your support!

But please, don’t send money my way, you can’t afford to give away. There are other ways to support creators and show that you care.

xoxo,
Mesut
