Artist, musician, producer-facilitator, and storyteller, Mica Sun is creating transformational, relational, and place-based experiences through story, music, poetry, performance, ceremony, landscapes, and song.

Hi! Mica here.

CURRENT PROJECTS
My current, up-front project is an 30-minute digital audiodrama named "WaterDrop", made partially as a part of a funding reward for the chance to attend a nature-connection storytelling workshop in May of 2019.

I am also taking time to:

(I'm also kicking off the Fall Season in my third year as a co-teacher at our all-outdoor preschool in West Asheville!)

My Work in Year 2018
In 2018, I produced a 7-episode podcast (Mica Sun Reflections). I am working on a release of tracks of my songs (e.g. Firebird, Dance of Earth, Garden of the Sacred Heart, Beltaine Song, Ishtar, RosaMother of the Mountain) as well as a transformational fable, The Floating Kingdom (this live telling of which is up on SoundCloud).

Visioning: River
A near-to-medium-term collaborative exploration I am engaging in visioning revolves around the River. From traveling the French Broad in a ceremonial manner -- tied to possibilities of doing historical natural history writing -- to literally blessing the waterway and galvanizing support -- to creating-producing an album of music around the river -- with friends and family -- to telling story and creating performance, either as a part of the Journey or as a touring, puppet show -- to my performance-fable, The Trout Woman -- the River as symbol and literal signifier of our bioregion and its health and the health of the people -- the River is core, central, and common to all humanity. Water Protectors, ceremonialists, environmentalists, social justice... all are tied in this way.

Where I've been overall:
I'm a lifetime performance artist, poet, musician, author, and archetypal mythologist. Author, director, and producer of an original musical theatrical piece with a cast and crew of 12 in 2015. 5-year co-director, manager, producer, performer, and musician in an Asheville-based stiltwalking theatrical pageantry troupe featuring ceremony, music, celebration, and story.

I've also have experience as a christmas tree farmer, permaculture landscaper, vegetable and herb gardener, preschool educator, and graduate assistant — but those are stories for another day —

(And there's always my professional bio: Mica Whitmire on LinkedIn)

Where I've been in 2018 specifically:
Creating a personal poetic and musical podcast series Mica Sun Reflections: Poetry and Introspection as a personal expression of my lyrical and musical art; as well as the skills foundation for a broader, regional, creative and literary, audio, and performing arts production house. Working songs, stories, and image and developing as best I can. Teaching at an all-outdoor preschool in Asheville.
