Hello! :)

Welcome to my Patreon, where I write a column called OTHER INDIAS, which is about lesser-known South Asian history, myth and perspectives. I write it more like storytelling than scholarly articles. You'll like it if you're thinking of using South Asian elements in worldbuilding, and also just if you like stories. The column is available at the $2 patronage level.

For $1 you can also support my work and get blogging-style news, writing and publishing chat, and book/film/TV show recommendations from me.

What are you supporting

The earnings from this Patreon is what makes writing OTHER INDIAS possible for me, but there's more! I work as a freelancer, and usually this is my only income that arrives steadily on the promised day every month. Part of it goes towards my rent, and the rest into groceries and medical bills, and all of it makes it possible for me continue writing both nonfiction and fiction... much beyond just this column.

So what you're supporting is my entire artistic career, and I hope my stories, thoughts and opinions bring you joy.

Who I am

I am a science fiction and fantasy writer from Calcutta, India and I currently live in New York. I work as a freelance science fiction and fantasy writer and editor. In 2017 I co-edited Luminescent Threads: Connections to Octavia E. Butler with Alexandra Pierce, which won a Locus Award and was a finalist for a Hugo Award in 2018. I have also formerly been an editor with Penguin India and Uncanny Magazine

My stories have been published by Tor.com, Strange Horizons, Fireside Magazine, Nightmare Magazine, The Gollancz Book of South Asian Science Fiction (in India), Juggernaut Books (in India) and other venues. I also write a column called "Extraordinary Alien on Hindustan Times

Tiers
Thank you, and a newsletter!
$1 or more per month

Thank you for supporting my work! For this tier I also send you a monthly-ish newsletter with my latest life news, publications, thoughts, what I'm reading, watching, listening to and stuff.

Other Indias (Column)
$2 or more per month

Besides me, you're now also friends with Yogini Vrishanana from 10th-century Pratihara Kingdom! This tier is for myths and stories from South Asia, with characters like her and more.

Everything together!!!
$5 or more per month

For $5 a month you get a column, a newsletter AND at the end of the year, a PDF of all my nonfiction writing together. I may try to illustrate it! How cool is that?

Birthday card!!!
$10 or more per month

You get a birthday card made by me, in the post, anywhere in the world. Limiting this tier so far to 20 to see how it goes.

Oh, and you also get everything from the previous tiers!

Life, The Universe and Everything
$42 or more per month

Honestly a joke tier, because I have no idea why anyone would want to give me $42 every month.

HOWEVER, if you *do* want to give me $42, you get everything from the above tiers, and probably catch up in person for a meal whenever you are in New York or I am at the place where you live. Not being a rapist or serial killer will be appreciated. I am mostly interested in knowing who you are at all. Wow.

Goals
100% complete
I'm hoping to earn $100 on the Patreon to start writing Other Indias.
