Whenever I go to look out a window, to spy upon the world from the comforting limited perspective of my space, I often spot the faint reflection of myself peering out with a critical eye. It is usually a passing glance, a moment of peripheral self-reflection that goes without a word. And then there I go, back to glancing across the street at neighbors mowing their lawns, at cars zipping by, and at the late afternoon fading of the blue sky. A fleeting examination. But should it be?

Mirror in the Window (or M.I.T.W) is all about turning projection into reflection. Our screens, whether large, small, or portable are mirrors and windows that compel and confound us endlessly. Let's figure them out a bit more...

I am Patrick Anthony, a mostly diligent and very critical student of the media and of the world. I studied English and Sociology in college and now I am interested in merging those studies with my indelible interest in how creative media affects our reality and vice-versa. My overall objective is to create analytical reviews that examine various social/political concepts and issues, hopefully opening windows for creative and constructive dialogues based on the media that daily floods our screens! Television, film, and music are the main fields I will explore. The movie, television, computer, and phone screens are open gates into self and world exploration. Can one be raised well on good media? I was and I think that one indeed can!

What do I want from this?:

Once you become a Patron, you are integral to the conversation--ahem--the reflection! I'd like to think of M.I.T.W as a social, cultural, communal conversation in which I further encourage people to examine the media that surrounds them through a sociological, political, and social psychological lens. That said, I don't want this to be a "stuffy" experience. While I do come at pop culture and media through a somewhat academic perspective, my candor remains pretty casual and (just fair warning) often peppered with a healthy dose of what some might call internet slang and/or playful profanity. I aim for this to be a FUN and INTROSPECTIVE social exploration---so please comment and please opine with your perspectives and ideas!!! It is MUCH encouraged!

This is a great way for me to become a better writer, a better artist, a better student of media & the world and more. All of this while contributing to the invaluable social conversation about creative media happening all around us. You'll find no fleeting glances here!
