Movements is creating Short Documentaries

"No New Korean War!' is the first video I created in my 'Movements' video series. Saddened by the deadly tragedy in Charlottesville, I wanted to better understand my local community through social engagement, active participation and open discussion. I thought the best way I could contribute was to go out there and talk to activists.

After a few videos, 'Movements' spun-off into 'Rising Up In The Streets,' a video essay series documenting political gatherings, protests and marches in Los Angeles.

'Rising Up In The Streets' airs on Free Speech TV, KPFK (90.7), and KPFA (94.1) as part of the daily program, Rising Up With Sonali.

WHO AM I?
My name is Nic Cha Kim and I'm an Emmy winning television reporter and documentary filmmaker based in East Los Angeles.

WHAT WILL I DO?
The plan is to attend political gatherings and speak with people in attendance. Videos will cover a singular event and the runtime is 10 min.

HOW MANY VIDEOS WILL I MAKE?
That depends on what's happening but the goal is to produce two videos every month.

WHY DO THIS?
Back in college, I saw a drum circle and walked up to it. Enjoying the energy, I asked a drummer who he knew there. He shrugged and said nobody. I asked him who was conducting and he also said nobody. I asked who is allowed to drum and he said everybody. I asked him why he was there. "I came to drum."

As a freelance video producer, I want to make content that matters. That doesn't always get to happen so I'm hoping you'll agree with me that my time is better spent telling your stories. I've worked in the non-profit sector for many years and nothing moves a mountain better and faster than people on a mission. I want to meet these people and tell their story. It's my hope these true stories will inspire and teach others to plan their future.

WHY PATREON?
I hate the idea of asking, but making videos is expensive and my stories are free. In fact, everything I've ever produced is available somewhere online for free. I prefer to keep it that way.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
At the moment, I produce these videos all on my own, but video-making benefits from a collaborative process. It would be lovely to bring a few people on shoots and produce more often.

THANK YOU!
