About N.S. (nerdSlayer)

Hello and welcome everyone, to my channel. As most of you watching this already know, I am nerdSlayer and I created the death of a game series just 2 years ago. The series started on a question. Why did SWG fail? An innocent question, but I had no clue the channel would become what it has become today.

I had tried YouTube multiple times before, but it never had really clicked with me. But when posed with the question of why my favorite MMORPG failed I realized, there wasn't really an answer out there yet. And in order to learn that answer, I would undertake a journey that has ultimately led me to where I am today...

It started as just a passionate fan wanting to know why MMORPGs can fail and fail in spectacular fashion. But it quickly became much more. If you watch my early DOAG videos and compare them to the current videos we make, it's night and day in quality, content, and most importantly we have become more and more effective at answering the question the DOAG series is most interested in by exploring company financials, developer testimony, fan and personal opinion, as well as track information such as patch notes, big content expansions, and significant events in the game or companies history.

I might have started as just a fan making YouTube videos, but I feel I can safely say we have become much more than that. Journalism was never something I was particularly interested in, mostly simply due to me having little to no exposure to it. But through the growth of the channel, and the brand of nerdSlayer we have grown to resemble something more than just content creation...a dedication to professionalism, and dare I say..."games journalism".

Through the DOAG series, and my other editorials. We are able to get a look on the past, current, and future landscape for MMORPGs. And I would love to continue to do that, and well, far more as I will later mention in the funding goals for the channel.

I’ve realized when looking at the way the channel gains it’s revenue, and well simply put 90% of it comes from Youtube ad revenue. Which creates a number of problems for the channel.

With the channel push to Patreon for funding, we will be introducing 3 different funding goals that when reached will add more content, features, and excitement to the channel.

The first goal for the channel, dubbed internally "it's going to work" is the first leg of our journey. With completion of the goal, we will create a new highly produced series targeting single-player games, add a weekly mafia stream, create twitch emotes, and a behind the scenes of Death of a Game dubbed "Making of Death of a Game".

If 1,000 people, which is less than 1% of my audience, donate $1 this goal can be achieved and thus grant the new additional content.

With completion of the second goal, we can hire our death of a game editor, Tom, full time on the channel. This means we can open up the ability to re-do old videos with our new format, and with Tom as the editor (he didn't edit the early videos). SWG, City of Heroes, Warhammer Online, and SWTOR all have the potential for rebooted episodes of DOAG where we can include new developer testimonies, our new format, as well as me learning from any of my previous videos on those subjects.

We will also start doing small topic news videos, to keep up with some of the current news in the world of gaming and MMOs.

Addition of a web comic, penned by our channel artist and only for Patrons exclusively!

And last but not least, we open up the ability to do full-length documentaries. For example, taking deeper looks into business trends, business models in the world of MMOs, and frankly MMOs in general. (Previously we were unable to fully produce some of the editorials on the channel, due to not having Tom full time.)

This also includes previous goal rewards.

Our final goal, and by nature most ambitious, is the goal we dub "production studio". With this goal being completed, we can hire on other content creators, writers, and editors we need to in order to create more content.

I will seek out a talented content creator looking to work with building his name/brand, and pay him to create more content for us on the channel! This opens up the opportunity to cover games and genres I haven't covered in the past, for fear of being out of my depth.

This also means more series on the channel. With each new content creator, comes a new series! We eventually want to acquire a number of other talented content creators to create a network, or production studio where we can continue to create more great content.

Think of RoosterTeeth, Devolver, GameGrumps, The Completionist, and Geek & Sundry. These production studios put out video games, and video content of all kinds.

With the completion of this goal as well, comes the addition of Live Event Coverage for major Gaming events. This is something I have been looking forward to for some time, but with this goal completed it allows me to afford to travel out to events and create more vlog content, interviews, and much more!

As with the previous goal, when Goal 3 is completed all currently promised rewards will be fulfilled by the end of the year (2019).

The end-game is to create something similar to RoosterTeeth, that functions as a production studio for content creators, creates unique and themed content, and also hosts live events and covers live events. But in order to get there, it will be a long exciting journey ahead.

Hopefully reaching the point where we can have a studio space to hire workers, content creators, and the like. As well as create more live content, including skits for the DOAG, and hosting the podcast live too!

The guarantee with my push to Patreon, is that I will deliver on everything promised and I implore you guys to hold me accountable. It’s important that if you decide to entrust your money into me, you are getting what you expect in return. And that’s exactly what is promised in this case.
