Welcome to the Pacific Novel Project.

What is the PNP?
We’re demonstrating our entire writing and publishing process. From shitty first drafts, critiques, and drafting; to submissions, rejections, and publishing. All in the open, warm embrace of the kind people of the interwebs. You've probably read about these steps, but we put them into action real time.

Who are we?
I'm Jason. A CHINFO award-winning Navy journalist with 20 years of writing and editing experience. I received a bachelor's in creative writing from Pacific University of Oregon in 2015, with minors in English and history. My short story “It’s Only Rust” can be found in the steampunk anthology Real Girls Don't Rust.

That's Steve. He graduated from Pacific University of Oregon in 2016 with a bachelor's in creative writing, and a minor in publishing and editing. His poetry has been published in Dark River Review and the lit mag, The 13th Floor. (He's a sensitive soul.) He's also front man and songwriter for his band, Hurkamur.

Our goals?
To become self-sufficient writers, to help others become so, and share our love of the literary with a like-minded community. We're still in the process of working up tier benefits. (Donation will go toward all the publishing aspects of our novels and tier benefits for Patrons. And alcohol. Lots of alcohol.)  Not working for you? Suggest something that would intrigue you. We aren't afraid to edit or do a complete rewrite. Please join our discussions - patron or not. Comment on posts. Read our hot mess drafts. Know something about our subject? Lay some knowledge on us. Join our book discussions and group writing exercises. Thanks for taking the time to stop by, hope we see you around.

Periodically yours,

JP and SC

Thank you for joining us. Check out our shitty first drafts and the changes/edits we made on the first pass through. Subsequent drafts will be posted the day before the PNP podcast so you can follow along as you listen.

We'll also talk shop. Espouse our opinions on story elements, review helpful books, talk about authors we love/hate, self publishing, submission formats. If it's related we'll talk about it.

Thanks for being crazy enough to join us here.  We're crazy too, so buckle up and enjoy this cornucopia of content and activities. In addition to the first tier benefit, here you will get:

BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) Podcast. Once a month Steve and I analyze a novel. Most will be in a genre related to our current works, but will occasionally dip into other genres. Get yourself a copy and let us know what you think in the BYOB threads. If we have any members in Book Clubbing, they will be choosing books so it could get crazy. Crazy!

The 200-Word Short Story Challenge. Word choice is important. No format forces you to examine word choice more than the short story. Every other week, we will post a random picture and challenge you to deliver a 200-word short story inspired by the photo and post it in the comments section along with ours. We will select our favorite each week and discuss them (the good and bad) on the PNP podcast. When the audience is large enough, we want to make this weekly and give tangible rewards for being selected as our favorite.

Bi - Weekly Writing Prompts. Prompts we create, not BS we just cut and paste from a random internet site. Get writing and show us what you got!

Shop Talk. Espouse our opinions on story elements, review helpful books, talk about authors we love/hate, self publishing, submission formats. If it's related we'll talk about it.

Looking for a little direction? Need a quick copy edit? Or someone to bounce ideas off? At this level we'll review up to 5,000 words per month of work you submit to us. (Specify exactly what you want if there's something specific you're having trouble with.) We'll also do a one on one 30-minute chat in Discord for every submission. You may also email us anytime with follow up questions.

- Enjoy the benefits from all previous tiers!

Book Clubber
$25 or more per month 0 of 10 patrons
Before we record our monthly BYOB book analysis podcast, join Steve and I in a private 60-90 minute group discussion about that month's book. After payment for this tier receive:

- Free Kindle/Nook copy of current month's discussion book, so you know longer need to BYOB! (We'll need your email to gift you the electronic copy.)

- Be part of the book choosing process. After every show we will put up a poll with book we chose randomly from your suggestions. Will use books from our list if we need filler.

- After 6 consecutive months of BYOB Club membership, receive a free signed print copy of our novels - with the message of your choice - once published. You won't lose this benefit if you decide to drop to a lower tier after 6 months.

- After 12 consecutive months of BYOB Club membership, in addition to the 6-month benefit, receive a free commissioned art print inspired by events/people from our novels . You won't lose this benefit if you decide to drop to a lower tier after 12 months.

- All previous tier benefits.

Hack and Slash
$200 or more per month 0 of 5 patrons

Been working on that manuscript? Doubt your mom and friends gave their honest opinion? Rejection slips piled up? Not sure if you're piece even made it out of the slush pile? Don't know what a slush pile is? We can help.

Within six weeks of opting into this tier and receiving your manuscript, we will copy edit your novel (up to 75K words). When completed we will hold a private workshop on Discord with you to review our critiques and recommendations. When your opus gets published (traditionally or self-published), we will advertise it on our next 10 public shows after its release. We will also interview you about your masterpiece in our Optioned: Book to Movie podcast.

(Please remember to opt out so you don't get charged again while we are working on your manuscript - or not. We're not going to twist your arm.)

Goals

Obviously we have the same goals as everyone else in life. To become all powerful multi-media tycoons snorting coke off super models on our private jet(s) to Milan to meet our yacht(s). It all starts here with investing in upgrades to, and maintenance of, our website.
