As some of you know, for the last 7 years, I've worked as a freelance interpreter and translator and part-time musician, touring and creating events and projects in my spare time.
However, I always wanted to do more of music and connecting and less translations. For me, music has always been about supporting other di creatives like myself, so i used to have a monthly radio show featuring independent music and live sets from local or touring musicians. Also, over the years I have hosted numerous events including an Open Mic called Fearless Females, hosted and organised many house concerts, and various gigs at venues.
Music has always been a means of meeting new people, connecting across continents and the globe. I am blessed with many long lasting musical relationships with other musicians and music lovers across the world.
This year, I'm not sure why, but my translation business really took a downturn.
I have been struggling to pay my bills, so I turned to music. I started busking in London to help make ends meet. It has really helped, it has increased my confidence and skill, and has even got me a few paid gigs.
I have a theory about making a living... Life has funny ways of moving you towards a new episode in life (I call these incarnations), and I believe we must trust in this ebb and flow and follow it, even though at first glance it seems like the scariest option...
I believe translation is leaving my life - it's not that I haven't been trying to get work... I have - and music and yoga (that's another story for another time) are my livelihood in the future.
So I have decided to try this for the next month, and that is to go and do the things I want to do more of, serve the music community and play more myself, really take this seriously. Obviously I will be taking on translation work when it comes my way, but I pledge to share my musical adventures everyday, and you are invited to come along for the ride (in exchange I ask that you help support my Patreon page)
The plan!
Every day I will post a video of a music activity - it could be: a busker I meet, musicians, a new song, me busking :) a house concert, a festival or gig...
I thought this June would be an epic time for music... There's here in Norrora, Trump demo, All About Love festival in Bath, going to Glastonbury to deliver a new piano for the healing fields, a paid gig at Mill Hill Market, Glastonbury itself where I'll be playing at Lost Horizons and another stage or two... and obviously I'll be out busking in London and maybe Brighton???
So lots of places where I will meet musicians and play music... maybe even a podcast?
