Week #19 - Except for the Love
I don't pick the prompts, people! This week it was GRIEVE, so I was forced to the dark side yet again despite my burning to write a lighthearted romp. Foiled again! I think of this song as a companion piece to the last song "If I Had Known," where the protagonist is grieving someone they loved. In this one, the same guy (maybe?) is now on his own deathbed, reflecting on and grieving his life. I imagine in those final moments, the minutia of day-to-day living would be distilled to its essence and whatever truly mattered would rise to the surface and feel very obvious. I'd be willing to bet that that is a clarifying moment for many people, and I'd go even further and hazard a guess that in the end not much seems to matter except love.
