Hello ::::: My name is Roin Morigeau ("ROH-in  more-jOE") + I am an interdisciplinary artist living in occupied Spokan territories working primarily in drawing, painting, poetry, digital collage, and sculpture. The work I make is centered in the act of art making as a healing practice. It's here that I share my archives, current works, video diaries, journal entries, painting videos, creative practice, and hand-packaged art prints and gifts with my patrons here on Patreon.

By exploring the feeling of “in-betweenness” I experience as a queer, disabled, gender non-binary person raised in a bi-cultural home (anglo-European and Flathead Salish) and sharing the work with all of you online, I am cutting through the isolation that chronic pain, disability and otherness often creates and hope to create connection through the art I make. Examples of my work:

“ancestor(s) talk to me” | 11" x 14" | Archival ink, gel pen, graphite, watercolor, gold leaf on cold-press watercolor paper | 2017

"vulnerability can only live where ____ lives" | 5" x 8" | Archival ink, graphite, watercolor on cold-press watercolor paper | 2017

G R O W T H  // pain triptych, 3 of 3 | 18" x 23" | Archival ink on bristol paper | 2016

You may be as new to this platform as I am, but how I have interpreted this online community is that by you contributing to my Patreon as a monthly donor, you then gain access to exclusive content that explains and shares more of my art making practice with you. What's great about Patreon is that it's accessible, you can donate as little as a dollar a month, to receive this exclusive content. There are different "tiers" or amounts patrons can contribute monthly, with different rewards, access, or gifts attached to each tier (see right --->> for more info). This may include a print sent to you in the mail, a monthly digital download, access to my video blogs or process videos and more :::::::

Your monthly contribution goes directly towards my living expenses, medical treatments not covered by my insurance, as well as growing my visual art presence by assisting with submission fees and materials. Living with physical limitations, I also rely on others to help with the needs in my studio that I physically cannot do. Ideally I'd like to be paying all of those individuals as studio assistants so meeting some financial goals through Patreon will allow me to do this! Here is an example of how I price my work and the cost involved in making my pieces:

Additionally, in a form of acknowledging and leveraging the ways in which my white passing privilege allows me access to white spaces, online viewership, + social capital I am beginning my account with 20% of my monthly Patreon funds going directly to black disabled artists in my community. As my earnings increase, I will be able to increase this percentage to 50%. Thank you to the numerous black / POC / indigenous writers and activists who have been advocating for this type of model. Special thanks to friend + Patreon artist/ photographer Shoog McDaniel for using + promoting this model and to the black/ POC individuals who addressed with Shoog the ways in which these types of crowd-sourcing models are implicitly racist.

Inspired by natural and fabricated landscapes, I am heavily influenced by contemporary artists and culture creators both in my community and whom I have met while living in Seattle, Los Angeles, and New York City. These artists include Tavares Strachan, Barbara Earl Thomas, Tracy Rector, Tuesday Smilie, Satpreet Kahlon, Ramdasha Bikceem, Cristy C. Road, Jahmal Golden, Juliana Huxtable, Adee Roberson, Melanie Griffin, Reina Gossett, Che Gossett, Bunny Michael, Ada Tinnell, Beverly Ragasa, Zakaria IbrahimiCarlé Brioso, devynn emory, Ron Morrison, Freyr A. Marie, Syan Rose, Shoog McDaniel, Alea Mahone, TextaQueen, Gabriel Jesiolowski, Esra Cömert-Morishige, Minori Sanchiz-Fung, Alisha Kahealani Mahone-Brooks, as well as fellow Spokane-based PORTAL COLLECTIVE members Shantell Rene Jackson and Asia Porter.
