We're happy to see you here! We're Scott and Kim, but chances are you're here because you already know who we are and want to find out more about our adventures. If you stumbled upon us, then welcome – we made the above video to give you an idea of what we've been up to and where we're headed. We'd love for you to join the adventure.
We've been collecting experiences and stock-piling stories over the past 12 years of travel aboard our 38' sailboat and we're now putting 100% of our storytelling efforts into Sailing Tranquility Bay, but we can't do it alone.
Why We’re On Patreon
For over a decade we've collected terabytes of photos and filled countless notebooks with journaling of our adventures. Until now, most of it has remained buried in our storage lockers. But we've decided that it's time to put our story out there.
We don't have commercial sponsors, or a production budget so that's where you come in as a patron. From camera gear to computers, website hosting and wifi, it all adds up. Putting these videos together also takes an unbelievable amount of our time. 100% of the contributions we get from Patreon get reinvested into our video production. We would like to produce our videos more frequently, but can't do it without your help.
With your support we'll be able to share more of our experiences with you. Also, as a contributor you get access to our patron only feed where we'll take you behind the scenes for a look at our every day life. You control how much you contribute and can join the adventure for as little as $2 a month. Your donations are only collected when we produce videos. We have rewards for different tiers and when it comes to advice, our patrons get priority. Like everyone, we only have a limited amount of time and energy to work with. If you find our work inspiring and would like to contribute, we will be overjoyed to have you along for the ride!
The Adventure So Far… .. .
Twelve years ago, we quit our professional jobs, dumped our mortgage and most of our bills and belongings, and bought a 38 foot sailboat for less than what a cheap SUV costs. Since then, it has taken us on an incredible journey. We spent a year wandering around the coast of Venezuela, two years traveling back and forth between Panama and Colombia, and another year in the Bay Islands of Honduras and the Rio Dulce of Guatemala. Over the rest of the past decade, we've traveled throughout the Bahamas, Eastern Caribbean, and up and down the East Coast of America.
There's a reason that our boat was so cheap. It was largely unfinished, and it had been grounded on a reef in a tropical storm before we acquired it. In addition to our new goal of bringing you entertaining and inspirational videos about doing it the hard way, we will continue to do ALL of our own boatwork ourselves. It has given us a new measure for what we value most in our lives, and we hope that we can find a way to share what we've learned with you.
While we occasionally have regrets about our choice of such an ambitious project, it didn't take long for it to spawn into a wonderful travel adventure. Over the last decade-plus, we have learned a lot of things about following our dreams. Our efforts have illuminated an incredible amount of naivete that we first had about the kind of energy and dedication it takes to breathe life into them, but it has also shown us some unexpected rewards.
More than likely, if you've found your way here, you've already seen some of the other sailing vlogs about what it's like to be "Out Here." Anyone that has ever made a serious effort at abandoning the life that's been prescribed for them, and instead following what's in their hearts can certainly attest to feelings of swimming against the current. But the cliche doesn't necessarily ring true. Sometimes, there's just a little disorientation when you first jump in. We're always going to be surrounded by those folks at the coffee machine whose only goal seems to be convincing you that there isn't another way. Through our videos, we'd like to share with you our most compelling evidence to the contrary.
Over a decade and 25,000 miles later we are still struggling, but also, continuing to reap the rewards of choosing our own direction. Our full time ambition is to reconstruct/finish our thirty year old boat and take you on an adventure with us to the edge of the Northern Icefield. We hope you'll join us, and help us work out the kinks as we cast off our lines on our latest journey northward: Into the Virtual Unknown.
THANKS for your help!
Scott and Kim
