About Steve0

We invite you to join us in our quest to #SaveSteve0.

Steve Robles is a 49-year-old man with a terminal illness: end-stage renal failure. In order to stay alive while waiting for a new kidney, Steve endures dialysis sessions four times a week.

He's been on dialysis for three years, and every year gets harder on his body and mind. More recently, he suffered a severe injury that left him hospitalized for weeks, resulting in mounting expenses.

But you can help #SaveSteveO! He needs a kidney, but he also needs help to survive. If you can't spare a kidney, we ask that you help him maintain the standard of living we want for him while he waits for the organ that will save his life.

One-time donations are greatly appreciated. But monthly recurring donations will make a HUGE difference.

  • $5/month buys Steve a day’s meal. He gets $40/month in food stamps, but that isn’t enough to cover it all.

  • $10/month pays out-of-pocket costs that fill one of Steveo’s medications for the month.

  • $20/month helps Steve cover transportation costs for two trips to dialysis. Steveo can’t drive after dialysis and needs a ride.

  • $25/month covers the basic medical supplies not covered by insurance for one month.

  • $50/month covers all sorts of things:
    • A month of cell service. A basic necessity the rest of us take for granted.
    • A month of internet service so Steve can stay in touch with friends and keep his spirits up.

  • $100/month or more goes towards
    • Getting Steve get on another donor list. Each list’s assessment process costs $1500.
    • A week of in-home care. A caregiver helps Steve prepare meals and takes care of him when he’s not well
    • Unexpected costs for unexpected emergencies

Your pledge of support helps #SaveSteveO. He can’t do it alone, but together we can keep SteveO fighting for his life.

All donations are truly appreciated no matter the size. If you’re unable to provide financial support, you can still help by sharing his story and rallying additional support to #SaveSteve0.If you’re not comfortable donating via this platform, you can also send contributions in the name of Steve Robles to Postmates or Lyft. His email address is [email protected]. Visit the #SaveSteveo Facebook group for details

If you’re not familiar with dialysis, a good intro is to watch the recent John Oliver exposé on for-profit dialysis centers. Steve’s chances of survival decrease the longer he’s on dialysis. After five years, the dialysis patient mortality rate is 65%. Steve has been on dialysis for three years. His health problems even led him last year to collapse from heat exhaustion, something so serious it ended up on local news.

The key to surviving end-stage renal failure is a kidney donor (go here to see how YOU can be a kidney donor). Currently, there are over 93,000 people on the kidney transplant waiting list. The wait to receive a kidney from a deceased donor is about 5 years, and in some states it’s closer to 10 years.

On average, receiving a kidney transplant can double someone’s life expectancy. Steveo needs a kidney in order to survive and thrive once again as a writer and friend.

Thank you from Steve’s team. Together we can #SaveSteveo!
