WHO ARE WE? We are Sara Pajunen and Rachael Kilgour and together we form the duo SOUND AN ECHO. We create and perform modern, minimalist arrangements of old songs that have stood the test of time. The songs are ones we learned from our grandparents, ones that came from the old country, ones that grew and changed as they were passed from parent to child and from one community to the next. We are interested in bringing new life to the old and remembering how to sing together again.

WHAT IS PATREON? It is a simple way for you to directly support an artist.
Historically, artists relied on one or two very wealthy patrons to fund their creations. These days anyone, no matter their income bracket, can support an artist by donating as little as one dollar a month. It's a kind of micro-patronage!

WHY PATREON NOW? AND WHY FOR THIS PROJECT? While we each are nurturing a semi-established solo career of our own, Sound an Echo is a relatively new endeavor and one we are excited about! We have been dreaming of recording our work together and releasing a debut album, but it seems we are always in the midst of creating or booking or touring or promoting for another project. Patreon seemed like the perfect way to create a sense of commitment and community around our budding collaboration.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? Firstly and most importantly, take time to notice and value the art in your lives. Isn't it a wonder how powerful the act of creation can be? How it can inspire empathy, growth, connection, possibility, healing?
Secondly, look to your right and consider contributing at a level that feels comfortable to you. Something as small as $5 a month (the cost of one fancy coffee drink!) will add up over a year.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? We will be releasing one new completed arrangement a month on an exclusive live music video. By the end of 12 months, we will have the material for a complete album! And you will be the first to know about it.

Can you imagine your life so far without music? Where did you hear the music that most influenced you? From a stage? From computer speakers? From your grandmother? Or maybe all three?

Back in the day, people gathered around a piano for entertainment and company. Everyone was a musician through song. We are inspired by the tradition of community song and want to make something that blends our modern technology - delivering a high-quality music video to your email inbox - with the warmth and connection old music can bring.

Thank you.
