About Sara Shah

Oklahoma born, and Texas raised. But I have lived my life across the world: Belgium, England, Jordan, Spain, France. I speak Spanish, French, English, Arabic, and Urdu. New cultures and new people excite me. I never fail to ask taxi, Uber, and Lyft drivers about their hometowns, providing me with moments of travel and adventure through their memories. (I'm working on a separate series on these drivers).

I've worked extensively with refugees from all over the world. I recently brought the first refugee food festival to San Francisco this summer. Through working with refugees and my extensive time abroad, I have noticed that in a world that so often tells us we are all different, we are more similar than we think. From working with refugees I realized we all, no matter our culture, want the best for our children.

From living in various countries I've seen how we all process fear, we all fall in love, we all feel deep loss. The human experience is not as different as the jargon out there would like us to believe.

I am a fiction writer and short story author. With my breadth of knowledge and travel experience I hope to embark on a new adventure. I hope to write a book about people from 25 different countries and tell their stories in short vignettes, a chapter a person. From a fisherman in Vietnam to a businesswoman in Peru. I hope to prove that we have more in common than we think. I hope to prove that we need each other. I hope to prove that difference should never separate us from each out. And most of all I hope this book brings with it the compassion for each other, in a world that does not feel all that compassionate at the moment.

If you would like to read this book, I would appreciate any contribution to fund my passion project, which I hope will impact the world by radiating positivity.

I have established 25 connections through various contacts in these 25 countries:

1. Korea
2. Vietnam
3. India
4. Pakistan
5. Iran
6. Columbia
7. Eritrea
8. Ethiopia
