And one of the scribes... asked him, "Which commandment is the most important of all?" Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’" (Mark 12:28-30, ESV)
Help us produce resources for thoughtful, faithful discipleship.
Have you ever felt like you had to choose between being faithful to God or thoughtful, between loyalty to God and intelligent thought? Many of the resources or books written under the banner “Christian” today can only reinforce the thought that we must choose to be either faithful or thoughtful.
Teleioteti exists because I am convinced that Christians should not have to choose between thoughtfulness and faithfulness. Indeed, Teleioteti is built on the idea that true thoughtfulness requires faithfulness and true faithfulness requires thoughtfulness.
Because thoughtfulness requires faithfulness, Teleioteti produces resources that build thoughtful faith on the foundation of the Bible. Yet our pursuit of faithfulness does not mean our resources are shallow or that we ignore the deep questions of our faith. To the contrary, it is because we seek to be faithful that we produce resources addressing the pressing questions of our culture. We strive to love God not only with our heart, soul, and strength but also with our minds (Matt 22:37; 2 Cor 10:5).
On the other hand, we are convinced that truly faithful thoughtfulness cannot be opaque and that it will not conform to the mold of modern scholarship. Building resources on the foundation of the bible means that even our definition of “thoughtfulness” must be derived from the Bible, which is simultaneously deep and clear.
Our resources, therefore, are intended to show leaders and those they lead that every Christian is called to be thoughtful and that this is not impossible. They are intended to show Christians that they do not need a master’s degrees to think deeply about their faith and the world in which they live and are intended to equip them to do so.
Our primary audience is current and up-coming leaders in the Church—students, pastors, and theologically interested lay Christians. It is our conviction that we can have the biggest influence for the Kingdom by equipping leaders to disciple the local church. We disciple leaders to be faithful and thoughtful and equip them with faithful, thoughtful resources in order that they might go and do likewise.
Teleioteti (Τελειοτητι, te-ley-o-tey-tee) is a Greek word meaning "unto maturity." It captures this vision which God has given me, to equip Christians with faithful, thoughtful resources for discipleship. My name is James Rutherford, I write under the name J. Alexander Rutherford; for the last 8 years I have been creating resources for Christian discipleship, resources that address theological and pastoral concerns from a Biblical worldview. It is my hope that Teleioteti would become a trusted resource for leaders in the local church, to learn from and use in teaching. If you would like to learn more about our vision, please visit teleioteti.ca. You can find our latest web resources at teleioteti.ca and read about our print resources on our books page.
It is my hope and prayer that others would partner with me in seeing the vision of Teleioteti fulfilled. Already I have had great support and a lot of help from my friends and colleagues, but I hope that others will partner with me in this ministry. There are many ways you can partner with Teleioteti, but I am here on Patreon to ask for your financial support.
The basic costs of running Teleioteti are only about $100 a year. We also periodically have costs associated with producing books and advertising. The most significant cost of running Teleioteti is time. The limited income made through book sales and affiliate programs is insufficient to cover the costs of maintaining Teleioteti. This means that the work I put into Teleioteti is done in my spare time. I work about 32 hours a week and then another 20 or so doing site design and writing for Teleioeteti. It is my prayer that God would provide a way for me to run Teleioteti as a full time job, that I could write, teach, and disciple to make an income. Toward this end, I ask you to prayerfully consider supporting Teleioteti.
If you desire to support Teleioteti financially, all proceeds will go to paying the costs of operating Teleioteti and then to helping me do this as a job, freeing up my time to write and serve more than I am able to do now. In the case of an overabundance of support, the excess would be given to the ministry of Christ City Church Kitsilano.

If we meet the goal of 800 dollars by the end of the October, this will allow me—J. Alexander Rutherford—to continue writing 20+ hours a week. My hope is that this would enable me to release video or audio content at least once a month.
