Welcome.

Who am I? Well, I mean, I wear many hats. The hat you need to know about - my shiniest hat - is my writer hat. My debut indie novel, INTO THE SHADE, released on October 30, 2018, but I've been a dedicated indie author for a lot longer than that. To do indie publishing the way I want to do it, though - the way that includes loot boxes, ARCs, signed copies, attending conventions, speaking on panels - I need funding, and that funding comes from you.

I love the idea of patronage - wealthy people supporting artists in order to enrich the world - and I love that Patreon has revolutionized that idea. I love that we, as a community of artists, can ensure that we all succeed. I'm proud to be an indie author in 2019 - and even if that changes and I become a hybrid author, both traditionally and self-published, I will always, ALWAYS appreciate putting my own writing out there by myself.

So... What am I working on?

So, I hit a snag with publishing INTO THE SHADE. The snag was money.

I published SHADE in 2018. It had mixed success, but all my friends bought a copy and it made me happy. I intended to follow it up with a second book and a lot of promo, but due to lack of time and funds, that was never a reality for me. I simply cannot afford to publish books at the standard I want to publish them at.

So... they're here. Every chapter I have written will be released here, to you, once per week. For one dollar a month (20-25 cents per chapter depending on the month), you can read the entirety of the series.

But that's not all. Among blog posts about my life and Indie Do's and Don't's, I write other fiction, as well.

My short story project, one of my many loves, is titled THE MOSAIC PROJECT. The idea is to write a collection of short stories - I'm talking dozens, perhaps near one hundred - over the course of several years. These stories are all going to be love stories, but they are not exclusively romantic. In fact, many are not. Many are about family, friendship, and queerplatonic love. Not all these stories are happy, either. You see, the goal is to encapsulate my definition of love and all its many facets in a gigantic collection of short stories.

These stories - the pieces of the Mosaic - will not feature the same characters. Every story will feature a different cast, save for the few stories in this collection that will have multiple installments. Even so, through these stories, there will be a narrative of some sort. Though abstract, there will be a beginning, middle, and end to the larger pieces of this collection. More on that later.

The goal is to fund these things and make them into physical books. Real, physical books that people can hold and own and treasure.

That's where you come in.

So... What are you paying for? Where does your money go?

Well, simply put, your money goes into making sure I can still write stories.

Every cent earned from Patreon is going to go into a fund. I'm going to save all your precious dollars and use them to (re)create physical versions of all of my novels, possibly including a bind-up of THE MOSAIC PROJECT. I'll know the cost of doing so later on, when I've got a new artist and I know how many short stories can fit in a novel.

Let's say I get more funding than I need. Where does the extra go?

This is a writing Patreon, so I'm not going to be buying fancy clothes with the money earned here - unless, of course, I need to be fabulous at a convention or event. Here's where your money's going to go, in order:

  • shipping costs for previous bundles
  • giveaways and other rewards for patrons (TBD - this depends on what you folx want!)
  • production costs of an as-yet-unnamed YA novel (about superheroes and trauma!)
  • attendance at local comic & entertainment expos and cons IF, and only if, I go as a vendor.
