Tim Dunlopis creating Essays, stories, interviews and analysis
This tier gives you access to all the writing, with the exception certain interviews and the special features. It's a great way to join up and test the waters because, as you will see, it covers a generous number of articles, information and analysis.
This tier will give you access to all the writing that is produced here plus the following: online discount codes for my last two books and for any future books; a one-on-one Skype conversation with me once a year; access to my private email list, which includes discussions of things not available here, including information about upcoming projects, and extracts of works-in-progress, fiction and nonfiction, as well as music and reading lists.
About Tim Dunlop
Hi. My name is Tim Dunlop and for the last twenty years, since blogging first took off in the early 2000s, I’ve been working as independent writer, trying to offer an alternative view to the stuff you usually get in the mainstream media.
Blogging used to get a lot of grief—lots of jokes about dickheads sitting in their basements in their pyjamas spewing out nonsense—but for millions of people, it was a breath of fresh air. Suddenly they found people who were willing to say what many in the mainstream wouldn’t (or couldn't). They found people who shared their values and who were able to articulate views in a way that made sense to them.
Yes, we found each other. And I was lucky enough to develop a pretty decent following, a sustained group of people who supported me by sharing my writing, adding comments, and generally offering advice and support. This has led to books being published and to me developing a bit of a second life as a public speaker, engaging with people around the world who are interested in things I write about.
This Patreon page is the next stage in me being able to continue doing the sort of work I have been doing since those early blogging days. Many of you have come along for the ride so far, and I am hoping you will consider signing up here too.
The subscription rates are over there on the right hand side, and I think you will agree they are pretty reasonable.
I think, more than ever, we need strong, independent voices not beholden to powerful interests, who are willing to say what needs to be said.
Who are able to offer the sort of analysis that goes deeper than the mainstream can normally tolerate.
Who simply see the world differently, as more complex than the simplistic takes of business-as-usual politics and journalism.
Yes, we need a big successful mainstream media to hold power to account. But we also need those other voices who can step back and say, hey, that doesn’t seem right to me.
Or, have you looked at this way?
Or, you are completely missing this thing over here.
As I say, I’ve been doing this for nearly two decades now, particularly in the areas of political reform, media analysis, and the future of work. But the only reason I’ve been able to do it is because of supporters like you who have helped amplify the message. Who have given me the support that is needed to “maintain the page” (whatever form the page has taken).
In fact, I can't do it without your support.
So this is my new page, and I hope you can come along for the ride.
