About Urban Tails Animal Rescue

Urban Tails Animal Rescue is a non-profit rescue dedicated to animal welfare advocacy, finding forever homes for animals in need and fighting the overpopulation crisis. Urban Tails rescues both dogs and cats of all ages, breeds and sizes, however, we have a particular focus in helping special needs, senior and palliative cases.

Due to a house fire at the founder of Urban Tails' home just after Christmas in 2017, the rescue was on a hiatus. During her time rebuilding and reflecting, Bianca realized that she really wanted to focus on the root of the issue we are all currently facing in animal rescue - overpopulation. She decided the rescue's direction would be primarily geared toward organizing and executing spay/ neuter campaigns with Urban Tails' rescue partners both here in Canada and abroad. The goal is to build relationships within communities that are deeply affected by the overpopulation crisis and open the door to continuous spay/ neuter efforts in the area to begin decreasing the street cat/ dog populations. The hope is to provide a better life to the existing street animals, to the residents of the areas and to prevent the birth of animals into a life of pain, hunger, sadness and inevitably, death.

The facts about overpopulation are real and we cannot ignore them.

In the USA alone, only 1 out of every 10 dogs born will find a permanent home. Each year, approximately 2.7 million dogs and cats are killed every year because shelters are too full/ there aren’t enough adoptive homes and only 10% of the animals received by shelters have been spayed or neutered. Now according to Humane Canada's 2017 Shelter Statistics, in 2017 Canadian shelters took in more than 87,000 cats and 33,000 dogs. On a national scale, 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters every year and of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats.

In the grand scheme of things, there are an estimated 200 MILLION street cats and dogs worldwide and we want to help. We understand that we can't fix this problem overnight, but we need your help to start. The success of our first clinic in Mexico would not have been possible without the help we received from the public. If all of our followers from Instagram alone pledged just $1 monthly, we would have over $800 per month to continue working on our goals, but also be able to carry on with rescuing and operating a small foster program to help find forever homes for animals along the way.

We ask that you please consider pledging even $1 a month to our cause. If you're unable to support financially, please share our page to spread the word.

*Urban Tails is not currently a registered charity, so we are unable to provide tax receipts, however, our charitable status application is in progress

Goals
$0 of $1,500 per month
Our first goal is to raise enough money to successfully launch our second spay/ neuter clinic. At our first clinic, we successfully sterilized over 150 dogs and cats and hope to complete 150 or more this time. Our location is almost finalized and we will be announcing it soon!
