What is Meraki?
Meraki Creative Hub is a Community Interest Company, which means we’re not-for-profit, with a focus on providing creative resources and activities for the community. With a focus on young people, we aim to raise the number or children taking part in creative arts activities and in particular, drama. We offer free places to families with low-income to ensure our services are available to all. We currently offer week & day long workshops in the school holidays, as well as drama based entertainment for festivals and birthday parties. We are currently operating in Calverley and Farsley, but we can’t wait to expand further!

What is important to us?
Here at Meraki we understand the importance of creative play. We are passionate about bringing the creative arts to young people and aim to make theatre accessible to those whom it is not usually available. We believe everyone should have access to art and culture, so we have made it our mission to bring drama and craft to communities throughout the North of England. With years of experience in both theatre and education, we are building the perfect program for young people that want to have fun and make friends, but also build their literacy levels and gain confidence.

Where does the money go?
All the extra cash we raise goes towards providing free places for low-income families, to help tackle raising childcare costs and encourage more young people to engage in the arts. It allows us to enter communities with low arts engagement and offer fun, creative days out for those in need.

Why do we need your support?
We started Meraki to raise arts engagement amongst young people in our local area. So far we have had a great response, but we want to spread our work and reach people within our community who wouldn't usually attend arts events or who cannot afford to send their children to holiday clubs like our. Childcare costs are rising - a full-time nursery place for one can cost up to 22,100 a year in the UK - and more often than not children spend their time with super-hero grandparents to save costs. We want to give those families the chance to enroll their children in jam-packed, educational, creative and fun holiday clubs without the financial obligations that come with it. We currently offer these free places, however our budget is limited and we are a self-sufficient company with no funding so we cannot offer more than 5 per week. This is limiting our ability to move into different parts of our community and the money raised through Patreon will help us expand!
