About Gwen Cooper
BECOME A HOMER'S HERO TODAY!
My name is Gwen Cooper, better known to many of you as Homer the Blind Wonder Cat's "mom." :) I'm a New York Times bestselling author of cat books--I've written five so far (including two national bestsellers) and have been published in more than 20 languages.
I'm also a tireless advocate for rescue animals, particularly special-needs and other "difficult to adopt" animals, who are--like Homer was before we met--so often overlooked in finding forever homes. My fundraising efforts have raised nearly $750,000 for small shelters and rescue groups all over the world in the past 7 years, and I've donated more than $40,000 of my own money. I also travel to shelters throughout the U.S. to speak at fundraisers. I never charge shelters a speaking fee, and any money I earn through book sales at shelter fundraisers I donate directly back to the shelter--in cash--before returning home to New Jersey.
Believe it or not, I earn less than $10,000 a year from book royalties. I make additional money with my "Curl Up with a Cat Tale" monthly subscription story series, by writing little articles for Homer's website supported by advertising, occasional merchandise sales, and freelance writing work. None of this makes a ton of money, and most of it distracts me from my real writing and my mission to advocate for small, no-kill animal shelters and rescue groups, who desperately need all the support they can get. (Except for my "Curl Up with a Cat Tale" series--which is definitely "real" writing, and which I love doing! :D)
(As you can probably tell, I don't need much sleep!)
I'm bursting proud of--and profoundly grateful for--the community that's grown in Homer's name over the years and the incredible things we've done together! But I know that I can do more.
I have two goals for this year:
* Devote myself full-time to writing, advocating, and fundraising for and about cats and rescue animals.
* Launch a global "Homer's Heroes" initiative (the blueprint for which I've already developed!) that I truly believe will positively impact and save the lives of rescue cats all over the world.
That's where you come in! As a "Homer's Hero" and a member of the Homer's Hero team, you'll not only get special access and exclusive merchandise and perks that nobody else will have. You'll also be part of a mission and a movement that's already saving the lives of thousands of cats every year, and only needs a little help from you to save even more. And you can become a Homer's Hero for as little as $2 a month.
Homer taught me that heroes are everywhere--that we can all be heroes by doing little things with an open heart. Thank you for being a hero! I hope you'll join me, and become a Homer's Hero today!
