About Terre Dance Collective

Who We Are
Terre Dance Collective is a group of movement artists working to create emotionally engaging and physically compelling contemporary dance. Terre was established in July 2017. Since its inception, we have been able to develop and present choreographic works in Washington D.C, New York City, and Cleveland, Ohio.
We strive to make dance accessible by presenting in spaces that are not the traditional proscenium theater, offering free and low-cost performances and classes whenever possible, and connecting other artists to the communities that they inhabit and create work in. We also collaborate with other companies and organizations that present the arts to the general public for free/ low cost. Some of those include The Petworth Arts Collaborative, The Somatic Center, and The One Journey Festival.

Upcoming
We are performing at The Grace Street Theater in Richmond, VA on Sept 6-7 & 13-14 at 8 pm. We are participating in a triple bill show with Richmond based choreographers Jelani Taylor and Callie Moore. In October the collective will be performing in Transformations which is a dance performance hosted by DanceArt Theater. The shows will take place on October 26 at 7:30 pm and October 27 at 2 pm. We are also slated to perform at Dance Loft on 14 in Washington D.C in April 2020.

Terre Dance Collective will also be hosting contemporary dance classes at Dance Exchange which will take place on Friday during the fall/winter from 6:30 - 8 pm. Along with contemporary dance classes, we will also be facilitating an open level movement improvisation class. The collective is also planning a community dance showcase which will present the work of D.M.V based choreographers. This performance will be taking place in mid-November.

Recent Happenings
From July to August 2019 the collective was in residence at The National Building Museum in Washington D.C. The museum has an annual "Summer Block Party" where they commission a large scale immersive installation to be built in the Great Hall of the Museum. Terre Dance Collective performed site-specific improvisations on "The Lawn" which was built by The Rockwell Group. We recently performed in Cleveland Public Theater's DanceWorks performance series in Cleveland, Ohio. In January 2019, we were able to host and organize a community dance showcase called "Layers". The show was free for the public and presented the work of 8 choreographers based in North East Ohio. In December of 2018, we were able to perform at the Spaces Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio. We were collaborating with 6 Cleveland based dance makers and were responding to exhibits by Sarah Kabot (Cleveland visual artist) and James Webb (South African artist).
