About Interbeing Institute
The renowned visionary neuroscientist, Francisco Varela, proposed that we need to develop a 'Science of Interbeing' in order to effectively address some of our most serious collective challenges. According to Varela, this future science of interdependence would be informed by three complimentary perspectives: contemplative psychology, phenomenology, and cognitive science. Unfortunately, Varela's untimely death in 2001 left this promising project unfinished. The Interbeing Institute seeks to continue this work by deepening our understanding of Interbeing through the creation of didactic and experiential resources drawn from the great contemplative traditions, the philosophical discipline of phenomenology, and the latest research in cognitive science. Our future survival may depend on cultivating our capacity to experience a felt sense of connection with nature and with each other.
