About WaterWorks Center

The WaterWorks Center for Environmental Education is an educational organization founded in 2010 by the Alabama’s Mountains, Rivers, and Valleys Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving North Alabama.

We have the best jobs. We work at the nation’s only water treatment plant reopened as an innovative, green, hands-on environmental experience! At WaterWorks, we reconnect children with the outdoors and instill a sense of wonder for the natural world through fun and educational outdoor activities. Our educational programs and on-site learning stations teach children to become responsible stewards of the environment, and allow them to see firsthand how we use sustainable technologies on site such as solar and geothermal power, green roofs, composting, rainwater collection, and more.

The students that come through are the future leaders of our communities and country. How we invest in them now has a great effect on the health of our world.

But running a non-profit organization is expensive! Facilities, maintenance, marketing, educational material, new technology, transport, canoes, and field trips…it all adds up. The more donors who sign on to contribute monthly, the more students we can serve, the more educational experiences we can create, and the more long-term decisions we can make. We will be able to connect more of the next generation to the outdoors because of you!

Thank you so much for your contribution.
